I got an 8.1 but didnt know that it was because of cheaters that there were so many 9's which is really annoying as mine couldve really stood out otherwise

Historically, there is often a bit of a bump at 9 for ??? reason (prev post), but 8.1 is obv a good score and unlikely to affect you negatively in any way.

Yes but this has not been the case since 2019 - every year since has the percentage getting 9 at >1% whereas this year it is over 3%. For example compared to 2021 where approx 0.3% got a 9 that is a 10x increase. This change however may be explained by a lower quality of applicants as it is required for more universities that are not cambridge but it would have had to have a rather significant impact and also there is a second test sitting for many of those applicants which opposes this idea. Nonetheless, I am happy with my grade as people cheating is out of my hands and all you can do is get the best grade you can get.

Cant help thinking youre over analysing it a bit. An 8.1 will put you in the mix just as much as if youd got 9 and there was a small bump in 2022, but larger ones 2019-- so it sometimes happens and we dont know the reason. 8.1 is very good, just move on and do well.

Personally, I abhor cheating (if it occurred) but you rarely find out exactly what happened/the effect of it as the poeple who do the investigation (imperial/pearson) are hardly independent. A bit like the mat - oxford problems last year, and why they offered kids a second chance/exam.

(this is username6088059 on another account as the other one was bugging) - Yes, I would agree that I am probably over analysing a bit and I know 8.1 is a very competitive grade so I am happy - the only thing I will take and hopefully others too is that there is no point dwelling on what could've been or should've been (I still think about silly marks I shouldn't have dropped) you've just got to try your best on the next thing, which for me is an interview and I wish the very best for everyone else too!

An 8.1 is an INCREDIBLE score either way, you should be insanely proud

If you got less than a 6 it's over for you

This is simply not true this year.
