Med - are Highschol leavers preferred over Uni graduates??

So, I'm a recent uni graduate and am now applying to medicine. I saw that now all unis have both undergraduate and graduate medicine (i.e. even if you are a degree holder, you still need to apply for undergraduate medicine to get a medical degree).

I know that this means that I would be competing with much younger students fresh out of highschool. Would this put me as an applicant in a disadvantage somehow?

Do med schools prefer highschool leavers (GCSE graduates) over uni graduetse (bachelors degree holders), or does it not really matter as long as I meet the academic requirements?

Super concerned!
Hi OP

For those with a degree, the four year GEM (grad entry medicine) is the one you can get SFE Funding for. Acceptance rate is around 4% compared with around 12% for the standard five year course for high school leavers (five year course would need to be self funded)

your financial circumstances and past subjects will determine what course you can apply for and your choice of unis

Resources such as the medic portal have a list of medical schools offering GEM , the aptitude test needed and the types of graduates med schools accept

For both courses the unis will have degree requirements as well- either with respect to classification, subject or both

It's not quite a question of who they prefer, but what choices you are eligible for
