How can I get GCSEs in Science, History, langauges, etc. for free or fairly cheap?

Hi, I am 20 and have my GCSEs in English Language and Maths (long story short, I went to a special needs school and was never allowed to do GCSEs at age 16), however the course I wanted to do (Level 2 in Creative Media, I was internally progressing from a Level 1) kicked me off due to "violent behaviour", and since no other colleges offer the course, I'm stuck without an education.

I thought to myself "maybe I should try and do the other GCSEs? That way I can try the Film Studies A Level as an alternative." Problem is, adult online courses for those things cost a hefty amount of money - £400 or so! Is there a way I can do the exams and such for far cheaper, preferably free?

If you’re in the U.K. and have an educational or health need (usually autism, ADHD or a learning disability but other times other things like mental health difficulties and physical health issues), you should qualify for an EHCP where they will pay for education up to but not including university level for free!

EHCP stands for educational health and care plan by the way. I have one and they’re paying for me to do A levels 1:1. I know people doing courses or GCSEs or A levels etc funded through that plus they can pay for or towards things like textbooks, printers, laptops etc

I do have one, but my mental health assistant said that doing the online GCSEs falls under "adult education" and would lead to my EHCP being revoked. Obviously I don't want that to happen.

Another alternative is to go straight to open university but I understand a lot of people want the full uni experience. Also I think some offer to pay monthly from a very quick google but I haven’t read properly and it is still a lot of money

I’m doing an online gcse and I’m 21? EHCP is for any education until 25.

I want the full uni experience for stuff like film.or Japanese - in particular, I wanna do the year abroad so I can go to a more gun-friendly country. I've always wanted to try out a firearm!

A lot of unis now let you do a year abroad or part of a year still studying so you could look for unis that do film that offer part of a year or a full year in Japan?

https://www.ipsea.org.uk/if-your-la-takes-away-your-ehc-plan this might be helpful on what grounds they can revoke your ehcp- nothing says they can revoke it for doing GCSEs

That's what I was talking about! A friend of mine did film and had a long list of American universities to pick from for his year abroad.

I know Japan isn't "gun-friendly" (far from it - you need to jump through a ton of hurdles to even have a shotgun, it's no surprise even the yakuza do not bother) but I still wanna visit, mainly for the Ghibli Museum.

I hope you manage to do this! (And sorry for all the messages I should have probably condensed them but they’re all over the place but hopefully they help with regards to ehcp and stuff)

Fingers crossed. What online GCSE providers accomodate EHCPs?

Don't see any GCSEs being offered by Connex, and I don't think King's Interhigh will accept a 20 year old on their GCSE course.

It doesn’t make it obvious that they offer online teaching for GCSEs but if you hunt around the website a bit you’ll find it

It's too bad their exam centres appear to be too far away - do EHCPs cover costs for private exams?
