Glasgow Uni Entry Requirements Are Weird - Astrophysics - SQA

As a scottish student why does Glasgow Unis entry requirements say BBBB is the minimum from S5 for the Astrophysics Undergraduate course but not specify the standard? I've guessed its AAAB from what there is but im still unsure..

If anyone knows or if im just being dumb please lmk! I am aware it says typically offers will be made at AAAAA by the end of S6 so maybe thats the standard, but it seems like such a jump from BBBB at S5.

I recieved AAAB at Highers and have 8 As in National 5s, im wondering if this is enough to get in!

Perhaps you can apply this year and see if it works? if it does not you can stay for S6.

Hey there,

Thank you for your enquiry and we are delighted to hear of your interest in studying with us at the University of Glasgow!

Our website details the full entry requirements for each course for 2025 entry, including the subject requirements. You will find these on each course page under the ‘entry requirements’ section, this can be found here: www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/degrees

Most courses show a typical (by end of S6) and a minimum set of grades, and we would always advise students to aim for the typical requirements to ensure the best chance of receiving an offer. The typical grades shown are usually by the end of S6, with an S5 minimum noted this is to offer guidance to students and let them know this is the S5 minimum we would look for when assessing an application.

We encourage students to do the best they can by the end of S5, and to work towards achieving the standard requirements noted by the end of S6, to ensure a competitive application.

Best of luck with your application!
Thanks,

It means to be considered for the course - in S5 you must have BBBB but to be made an offer and entry into the course you must have AAAAA by the end of S6. Essentially the entry requirements are AAAAA. I would agree it’s confusing.

This would be false by the example of my friend in the year above (who has no ex circumstances) that got into MMath with AAAAB unconditionally in S5.
