sixth form imperial maths school admission test

i have the admission test on the 8th dec... lowk so scared 😭 idk what to expect but ive looked at the specimen papers they provided and it doesnt seem that bad, quite similar to ukmt questions. any tips would be appreciated !!🙏🏻

No specific knowledge of imperial, but practicing on some ukmt imc / kangaroo (on drfrost or ukmt) papers and maybe think about a bit of problem solving is about as much as you can do in the 2 weeks. If you get stuff wrong / get stuck, dont just quickly read the solution, think about if you know the theory and if you had a similar question how youd know how to do it ..., so transform the problem, simplify it, sub numbers, ....

Yh mines at 1:30 as well I did the specimen paper literally guessing everything and I got 34/60 so like I’m deffo not gonna get in but still I’ll try my best and also I hate circle theorems but like it doesn’t say anything about it in the specification so like it’s not gonna come up right???

bro ure fine id probably get worse than u cs i havent even been taught vectors and stuff 😔plus im litch doing my mocks rn and the test is right inbetween the two weeks💀but the only thing is i feel like im gona mess up in the actual test 😭 cs i always overthink esp abt maths and also abt the circle theorems i dont think theyll come up bc its not on the spec

It’ll be fine and plus I don’t think anybody’s really been taught vectors .I’ve spoken to friends from other schools and they haven’t, I haven’t either as well idk why most school leave it right till the end .Just teach it and get it out the way but it’ll probably be fine I don’t think it’ll be on the admissions test. Other then that do you think there’s anything else in particular I should revise or things I can use to revise. I struggle with quadratic inequality…. They just never made sense but it’s not on the spec so I can’t be bothered . Well anyway good luck on your mocks.

thank you!! ibr i havent really touched anything to prepare for the admission test cause of mocks, but like the first reply said, questions from ukmt are pretty similar (when i skimmed the specimen test i recognise 1 or 2 questions were the same as the previous ukmt ones) the junior ones are probably too basic so senior, intermediate, and bmo ones are better. also i guess you could upload the specimen papers and the spec to chatgpt and ask it to curate some questions for you?? i did that as prep for my bio olympiad competition last year and it was rlly helpful! or even ask it to explain the topics in the spec. as for quadratic inequalities, me and u are in the same boat i kinda got the grasp of it i think?? watch mathsgenie and 1stclassmaths on yt and try their sample questions theyre rlly good 😋 also yes i had to teach myself vectors tbh its not that bad compared to furthermaths content etc. but anyway good luck on the prep and maybe we might see eachother

Honestly that was such a horrible test. Like I know I’ve lost 27 mark already at the minimum but like it could be much worse . WHERE EVEN WAS THE TRAINGLE IN THE LAST QUESTION ANS THE WORDINGS OF ALL THE QUESTIOSN WERE SO WEIRD. But anyway it’s done now so whatever
