Transfer from UCL to Imperial

Hey everyone,

I’m an American student who took A-Levels and got A*A*A in Bio, Psych, and German. With this A-Level combination I can’t apply to Imperial, but have received an offer to study Human Sciences at UCL.

How viable is a transfer to Imperial during my second year at UCL?

I really don’t want to go to UCL due to its poor reputation in academia and employment within the USA. So I’m torn between trying to transfer to Imperial from UCL, or going to community college in California to transfer to a top US school.

All the best,

All the best,

Generally speaking, the university to which you transfer (Imperial in this case) will want you to meet their own entry requirements as a condition of the transfer. That condition would prevent your transfer.

Imperial provide some details as to the prospect of transferring here, where they say, "Transfers are not common and are subject to availability." They recommend that you contact their admissions team to discuss your options.

I would say that applying to a university (UCL in this case) with the specific aim of transferring out if it is not wise, and is likely to lead to disappointment.

All the best,

In the UK, transfers are not common / routine, and with a top Uni like this, not very likely - you cant' sneak into a Uni asking for higher grades via the back door.

Imperial is a fantastic Uni - you won't be disappointed.

UCL is the 9th best uni in the world, how are they bad in academia?
@MercuryStudent - having just read @McGinger's post above, I realised that we've assumed you're seeking to transfer in opposite directions.

I suspect that's because your thread title says, "Transfer to UCL from Imperial" but the body of your post says, "How viable is a transfer to Imperial". That's a tad confusing.

What subject are you missing for Imperial? Is there a way to meet that requirement between now and August 2025?

it’s a great school. But not well known, especially not in the USA.

Hello, yes sorry I’ve just realized that mistake. The title was supposed to be “Transfer from UCL to Imperial”

Chemistry A-Level, I won’t be able to study it before August 2025, not that it’s impossible- but I’m very very busy with work.

I've amended it now, in case anyone else is confused.

There’s zero chance that a course that requires chemistry A level will waive that due to first year on a human science degree.

Good to know! Thank you, in that case- I’ll settle with community college back in the states.
