UCL Economics

Im applying to UCL Economics as one of my choices with A*A*A in math fm econ respectively, my personal statement was deemed strong by my teachers with 99888766665 at GCSE , i know UCL only really give offers to people predicted 3/4A* , what do my chances look like? how often do people with 2A*A get in?? thanks for your help i dont mean to sound insane

You're wrong about UCL econ only giving offers to 3/4A* applicants, as long as your predicted grades are at the minimum A*AA then you have a chance. I got in with A*AA predicted so the grades won't be the issue, but even a personal statement that everyone says is good can be easily rejected, it's tough to call but best of luck!

not quite but they were good, four 9s, six 8s and a B in FM - still PS will always be the most important thing in your application

In the same both. A*A*A in math, further math and chemistry and majority 8’s at GCSE (with a couple 7’s and 6’s and 1 9).

Did you also apply to LSE? If not, did you still do the TMUA?

Hi, Could I ask if you had a fourth a level, please and whether I could see or hear about what you wrote for ur ps, please? I'm looking to apply to econ at ucl too with possibly A*AA and I'm wondering whether it'd be hard for me bc ik sm else who applied with A*AAA and got rejected (she had a 2.8 tmua score tho) did u also do the tmua?
Sorry for the many questions, only answer if you're comfortable sharing!

Hi, I did not do a 4th a level, A*AA is tuff, many applicants apply with straight 3A*, I’d try bumping one of ur grades up. Do you do further maths? I did do the TMUA however UCL did not care this year about TMUA and are only using it from next year forth. I can share my PS, send me a private dm

Heyy, I've sent u a private message. Hope you've received it!

Hey, yeah no worries! I only did 3 A levels (so no FM). PS will be the most important thing, I wrote a bit about the global financial crisis, a bit about behavioural economics (talking about a lecture by Richard Thaler and a book), a bit about the ongoing COVID crisis and resulting economic policy in the UK and then about stuff I'd done outside of school & the skills they gave me to be a good economics student/economist. Main thing is to have a view on things, whether academic or current affairs, and be able to back it up (imo!).

I was applying before UCL introduced the TMUA requirement so can't say anything on that front but hope this helps!

Thanks so much, could I just check again which course you went for again, please? This is a bit of an ask but would it be possible to get a look at your ps, as well, please? I'd really appreciate it
