It's hugely college-dependent.

I have on average 1.5 essays per week. On top of that I will have logic problems fortnightly and economics problem sets once a week. I am expected to do maths and stats alone (but never do....) because we don't have maths classes.

The reading is probably the worst bit, you can't even start a politics essay until you've read about 4 books and made notes, and thought deeply about the question. My tutor always refers to the books that he hasn't prioritised and then gets annoyed when we havent read them. Like a lot of 'reading subjects', the reading workload is as much as you want.

I'm at St Hilda's so there is probably less of a workload for me than for someone at Merton (having not properly met a Merton PPEist, i'm guessing).

are you guys implying that workload varies with college? I thought that oxford colleges was only a residential place, and that the course had the same workload everwhere. What is different? The workload you get from the tutors at the college?

Your tutors set the work you do. Different tutors in different colleges set different amounts.

I'm at Hertford. At the moment, I'm on 2 essays a week (2000-2500ww each). I don't do logic this term - I did last term, and we had an essay a week plus logic exercises (which took about the same amount of time). I have 2 tutes a week, plus an hour and a half of maths classes (but we don't have exercises to take home and hand in)

I've heard of people last term who were on an essay and a half a week plus logic, and equally people this term who are doing an essay plus short economics questions. It varies a lot by tutor.

PPEists at Univ did 2 essays a week (1 Econ and the other either Politics of Philosophy) plus maths last term. This term seems virtually the same.

Do they not do Logic? (I remember talking to one of your PPEists who had the same workload as me last term, plus another essay every fortnight...)

Could anyone tell me about the workload someone studying PPE may expect to have?
How much does it depend on the college?

I'm at Balliol, we usually get two main pieces of work a week, a question or problem sheet and an essay or two essays a week, plus their reading lists....

In addition we have to do a maths problem sheet a week.

We get a maths class n 2 tutes a week.

Workload varies from one college to another, especially in the case of art-sy subjects, while it's pretty much the same for sciences..

not sure i'd agree with this! though perhaps i'm a pseudo scientist..

colleges seem to range between 1 tute per week to 3 per week, all needing essays. & despite us not having option papers - the papers you'll actually have sufficient tutes in varies from college to college too!

They did, although I think sometimes their philosophy essay was Logic. I know they did econ every week, politics every other week and philosophy every other week, but maybe the logic wasn't part of that philosophy, and done as extra. Not sure

No, Oxbridge colleges are far more than a residential setup. They're the hub of teaching too.
