The Student Room Group

Worth the risk?

Hi everyone,
I’m a high school senior who’s been accepted to the MTheol program at the University of St. Andrews. I come from a smaller, Midwestern city and attended a project-based school, so the academic environment will be challenging but manageable for me. My main concern is the cultural adjustment.

From what I’ve heard, St. Andrews is known for being an elite institution with a wealthy student body, and I’m concerned that I might feel out of place or isolated in such an environment.

If anyone has experience with St. Andrews I’d really appreciate your input! How important is the social scene in shaping your overall experience there, did you fit in easily or if not how did you find ways to acclimate?

Thanks in advance!

I myself am still in school but my maths teacher graduated from st Andrews and she says she's loved it. I don't assume she's rich but I don't know. She is really smart tho. I'm also aiming for it so I might see you next year
