The Student Room Group

Harris Westminster

I’m debating between Harris Westminster and Brampton Manor. I have heard a lot from previous Brampton Students but not from Harris, if anyone is willing to help me out, could you answer a few questions? I would appreciate it greatly!
1) How much is the workload?
2) How much Homework is there?
3) How supportive are the teachers?
4) How does a typical day look like?(Timings and periods etc.)
5) How much support do you get with UCAS and Oxbridge applications?
6) What is the atmosphere like in general?
7) How much freedom is given? Is it similar to high school or more like a University atmosphere?
8) Would travelling >1.5hrs to get there impact how much I can academically perform?
9) How is Saturday school? (Time consuming or helpful?)
10) Can you rate your experience form 1(lowest) to 10(highest)?
11) Any issues you came across, any surprises or problems you faced?
12) How high achieving was your cohort at the start of Sixth form?

Even an answer to a few of these questions would be helpful! Thank you to everyone in advance! 😊

i hate the school
the average grade of the year is a C
last year only 14 people out of like 80 in chemistry for an A*

this is for hwsf btw

theres only a handful of teachers throughout the whole school that are good

we finish at 4:10 so i think longer travel sucks, there are some people that travel from outside of london to get here

i would argue that saturday school isnt useful but its needed to catch up with content

you get homework for each subject which amounts to 4 hours so 16 hours a week for hw
you also get prep which is mini hw for each lesson

however you get a LOT of support for ucas. my friends from other schools get close to none

you get more freedom in yr13 but u get 2 frees in yr12 but u cant leave during them and break
if u do 4 subjects in yr13 u shld get 4 frees, but if u drop a subject u get 7 frees that u can leave school for + you can leave at break

theres 8 periods in a day, monday and friday are 1.5 hr lunches, the rest of the week is 50-45 minutes

my experience is like a 4 maybe 3

my teacher told me that 14/80 people in 2023 got an A* in chemistry and i heard that the average grade in my year is about a C or B
