Should I change my future plans?

After discussing my plans for after college with my tutor he recommended I take a more " core subject based degree" due to my grades (GCSE - 8x grade 9s and 2x grade 8s, Predicted A Levels - 3xA*)instead of primary education like I've wanted to for years. It is worth listening to him and looking at changing my plans or should I stick to what I want to do?

It is 100% your choice and you should not let anyone tell you how to live your own life.
While your grades are exemplary, even if you do get into a very competitive course, you might find that it is not your passion and that you would have enjoyed a course you are interested in much more.
Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life.

Just remember that you can do teacher training after a more general subject degree - and that you might change your mind about teaching.
