Student finance question

Good evening,

I hope people have enjoyed their weekend. I am currently studying at the Institute of continued education (ICE) at Cambridge University. I am currently doing an undergraduate certificate in history, which is at level 4. I am hoping to enrol in a diploma course with ICE next year, which will be at level 5. Would I be able to get student finance for the level 5 course next year? Thanks.

Hi @hello.student

Congratulations on your level 4 in History! That is great you are planning to go on to study at level 5.

The best way to check if you're entitled to student finance would be to chat with Student Finance England (SFE) directly and it might be worth chatting with ICE Cambridges finance team too.

Contact SFE:
https://www.gov.uk/contact-student-finance-england

SFE have lots of helpful information on their website about how to apply and calculate your entitlement if you can apply:

Good luck with your studies!

Hi there, what is the exact title of the course you are looking to study? Will this be a full time course? How many years is the course in total? Also, how may years of previous study have you studied so far?

Thanks, Stephen.

Hello Stephen.

Thank you for coming back to me.

Each course is one year.

The course will be: Undergraduate Diploma in Archaeology: Death and the Ancient World. This will be at level 5.

I have studied: Undergraduate Certificate in History at level 4.

I have only completed one year of study.

Thanks

Hi there,

Would this be a full time or part time course? Will you receive an undergraduate qualification for the course you are currently on?

Thanks, Drew

Reply 5

Hi Drew, it would be part time. The course I am currently on is a level 4. It is equivalent to one years study when completed. Level 5 (the next one I am hoping to do) will be equivalent to 2 years of undergraduate study. Thanks

Hi there,

So you will not have an undergraduate qualification from this course?

Thanks, Drew

Reply 7

No, no degree. Is that what you mean?

Reply 8

Hi there,

Yes that is what I mean. Is your current course a full time or part time course?

Thanks, Drew

Reply 9

No, I will not get a degree and it is a part time course.

Hi there,

Then you will be eligible for funding for the next course. You can have up to 16 years of funding as long as you do not get a degree.

Thanks, Drew
