Colleges at Durham University

I'm hoping to do psychology at Durham university and will be staying at home during my degree as I already live close to the university. If I won't be needing accommodation does it matter which college I am apart of? Which colleges would be best for someone in my situation?

You still apply for your college like everyone else so you can take part in activities such as matriculation, sports, formals, balls, etc. Since things such as the facilities won’t matter much in this case, I’d recommend looking at things such as distance from your house, gowned/non-gowned for events, the library, events, and societies/sports/facilities.

All colleges will have some livers-outs so there’s no single college that is completely catered to them. Look at the colleges and try and establish the ‘vibe’ of the people there. This will differ between colleges.

Hiya,

As you're not intending on living in college, picking/ranking your colleges will be much easier. There isn't a particular college that is better for livers out, it all comes down to what you want out of your college experience, facilities and whether you'd like to be part of a bigger or smaller college 🙂 As others have said, focus on what that particular college has to offer and how that would benefit you; for example, if you're big on sports, Collingwood has really good facilities and happens to be a bigger college as well.

Hope this helps!

When do you apply to colleges? Is it after you get an offer?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you let them know your preferences then and then you're assigned one.
