uni loan so small

Hey i’m really stressed and wanted to see if anybody was in a simailir situation. I have the smallest student loan - 4.5 k and i understand this is quantified based on my parents incomes- but they genuinely as much as they try cannot support me financially (they have 5 other children to care for). I’m not silly and i’ve always worked and i have a part time job to earn my own money to pay my rent etc (which is the cheapest option at my uni but still 7k). I’m careful with my money and last week i worked 30 hours which i fitted in amongst full 9-5 days of lectures but i still just do not have enough money, my loan is so small it all went on the first couple months of rent and i have to pay the remainder myself- but when i do so i’m in my overfraft and i work a lot of hours for a student but i just can’t get on top of it. From what i understand i work more hours than the average student so i feel i can’t blame myself as what more can i do- it’s just frustrating because i feel as though my loan is putting me in a worse or situation when my parents genuinely do not have the funds to help me and i’m doing all the hours i can do fund it myself, it just doesn’t feel entirely fair at times and it’s just constantly having me on edge about trying to get as many hours i can at work (to the point i have missed lecture time occasionally) all because my loan can’t take care of my rent

does anyone else have this situation being on the minimum loan- i know it’s this way for a reason it just seems frustrating because i know my family really can’t do anything to aid me and that’s not their fault but it’s the reason i’ve been given a lower amount :frown:
Look at it like this , your parents have money some students are from poor council homes who parents are not working or earning every little. Yes it's nice to get things for free but unfortunately, it don't work like that. Means tested is fair as it saves the public purse for people who needs it most.

What wouldn't be fair is if someone who's parents earn over 100,k gets the same amount of support as someone who's parents are on 20k..One solution, is to move out and you will get the full everything. When you live in student halls etc , they don't take into account parents earnings . Also do your parents charge you rent ? Because that's why you got no money , if you live with your parents they are expected to not charge you rent ? They not a landlord. Obviously you can help out and buy your own food or pay a bill .

Moving out doesn't change the fact that it's means tested and based on parental income. The OP already pays rent, so clearly has already moved out.

Does your uni have a hardship fund you can apply for?
