War studies personal statement

I’m applying for war studies yet have also applied for history as a backup. My statement is quite balanced between the two but I have tried not to mention history as to keep a backup. However, this may make my statement too vague. Can any previous war studies applicants give me any advice?

Hi there,

I would recommend that you get in touch with the Admissions Teams at your chosen universities for History to ask whether you can submit a secondary personal statement.

At the University of Nottingham, we allow students to email us a secondary personal statement if they have applied to multiple subject areas and their UCAS personal statement isn't relevant to them all. This way, they don't have to worry about balancing a statement across different areas of interest or back-up course options.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi! I applied for war studies as well. I wrote about the Model United Nations on international crises topics I did and the debating tournaments I took part in. It seems to me that to mention you are interested in history is important for applying to war studies as well as you can only understand what is going on in the future if you understand the past. I wish you all the best !!
Hi there,

I agree with the above and would definitely discuss history in your statement for War Studies! I recommend discussing the technologies or tactics of past wars (historical) and then how this knowledge can help understand what is going on now or in the future etc.

Even if its a small link - put one there as it will help for both subjects

Good luck!

Tell me when you get an offer for war studies, I got mine after two weeks, so it would be nice to stay in contact!
