The Student Room Group

Finance

My daughter was offered a placement after 2 days of study at the beginning of this academic year. After weeks of trying her student finance has finally been amended to reflect the placement year fees & loan. However she has now received a demand for £115 tuition fees. We are very confused & she is very worried. Would anyone know why she has received this? The placement is a fantastic opportunity for her, but has caused so many issues with uni
Hi there. Has your daughter received a new Entitlement letter since the change was made? Does this confirm that we will be paying the Tuition Fee? Thanks, David

She hasn’t received anything. She logged onto her student finance account and could see that the changes had been made. The tuition fees changed to, sorry I cannot remember exactly, but around £1350 I think & the maintenance loan amended to a lower rate too.

it’s all been very difficult for her to do, she was told that uel had to contact student finance on her behalf because we had just commenced the new year. Unfortunately they haven’t been too helpful
Okay thank you. When was the application approved for the Placement year change was this done recently? Thanks again, David

I believe it was around the 28th October. Sorry to be vague, she is at work now, but I have asked her to check the details once she has her lunch break & I can confirm
Hi ELK502,

The university shouldn't be demanding additional tuition fees if we have approved these on the application. Have they tried to confirm attendance for the course.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi uel said that they had submitted the transfer change to student finance on 23/10 and closed her enquiry with them.
I have checked her account and the amounts have been updated for her tuition loan and maintenance loan, however the first tuition loan payment for 346.25 on 27/11/24 says ‘awaiting confirmation’. Would this mean that they have reported the changes but not confirmed that Emily has been attending her placement?

Nobody has contacted her from uni to confirm attendance

If the payment is showing as "awaiting confirmation" then this means for the new course, the University has not informed us that she is attending and we cannot release the payment until this is confirmed. Once sent, this takes around 3 working days to update on our system and then a further 3 working days for the payment to be made. I would advise that she speaks to the University directly. Thanks, David

Thank you. I thought that you would say that. Sadly not an easy place to contact and get a response. What do you advise that she does about the demand for payment within 7 days?

I cannot advise on that sorry as that would also need to be discussed with the University directly. Thanks again, David
