Growing my Grades - aya's journey 🪼

Helloo, I'm Aya 👋
I'm in year 13 and I'm doing English Language, Mathematics, and Physics
At GCSE I got a 6 in English (1 mark off a 7 :frown: ), a 9 in Mathematics, and a 7 in Physics

I slacked off a lot in year 12 due to laziness and personal circumstances. I'm determined to get back on track and grow my grades.

Predicted grades: ABC
My goal: AAB

- This is actually my first post on TSR, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong place

Some extra info:
I'm aware it's a bit late in the year to lock in, but since I'm not applying through UCAS, it doesn't matter much.
My application will be around mid 2025 so I'll start working on my personal statement soon
I'm also doing IALs which means I can spread out my exams (doing Year 12 physics in January)
My mocks are reallyyy soon and I feel nowhere near being prepared but oh well I'll still try even if I can't give my best

hi!
great start to your year 13 blog acorn! I already applied to UCAS, and yet I received 3 conditional offers from Queen Mary University of London and City, University of London and 1 unconditional offer from the University of East London. I am still waiting for UCL (University College London) to make their decision. Good luck with your personal statement acorn! Make sure you list the features that make you unique. Take inspiration from other personal statements but don't copy them.

That's great news! You've already done most of the hard work but good luck with the rest of the year and thanks for the advice

Day 1

4th of December 2024
Sat both my English and Physics mocks. English was okay but Physics was the stuff of nightmares 🫣 (mainly my fault for not putting in the effort)

Day 2

5th of December 2024
Sat my Maths mock which was 😙🤌
2 or so questions made me stall but the rest was smooth sailing
I'm battling the flu and a headache so I'll relax for the rest of the day, I might do some chores/bake

Days 3&4

6-7th of December 2024
I was still sick but did some chores, baked cookies, and visited a family friend. Didn't do any revision for my January exam. I was focused on getting better and clearing up everything before school next week.

What I plan to do today:
Physics

Revise as much of mechanics as I can (at least syllabus points 1-16)

Mechanics past paper questions

Maths + English + Physics

Review my notes from this term, identify my weak topics, and draft a plan for holiday revision.

Hey zaalima! I didn't get it remarked because I was so done with GCSEs at that point 😬. I regret that a bit but for the universities I'm applying for they don't really factor in so it's alright.

Baking is really relaxing at the right times!
As for mocks, I'm not sure how much subject-specific advice I can give, as we don't share any, but one really important thing is to not overexert yourself, and if possible, try having a few hours of relaxation/no studying before your mock, I find that helps a lot. Try not to panic especially when you're sitting the exam. For me personally, if I'm too nervous I get a mark down or so from my usual work.
Wishing you the best of luck! Hope I helped 😊
