For pharmacy

What unis would be best for networking and overall environment ?

I’ve heard bath does not have as much diversity so I’m a bit hesitant with that.

Also what other universities would be recommended?

Hi! I'm also applying to pharmacy this year, I'm resitting so alot of my friends have gone off to uni already including Bath, Sheffield, Kings and UCL. While there may not be a lot of diversity in the city, I have heard that the student community is very diverse and welcoming. I'm also applying to the unis I mentioned above along with Bath at Plymouth campus with foundation year. I think in terms of networking russel group universities are ideal as there may be more opportunities available to research into your interests and have placements etc. I have heard that Queens University Belfast is amazing for MPharm, just not for me since its quite far away but I know a lot of ethnic minority students who go there and they love it! When are you planning to send your UCAS, I'm struggling with my personal statement at the minute!

Good evening @mediccomeback

It's great to hear you are thinking of applying to the University of Reading for Pharmacy.

The university has a great pharmacy course, and the MPharm Pharmacy is the only degree allowing you to register as a qualified pharmacist. This is a great degree that offers great job opportunities. The University of Readings is one of the UK's top 10 universities for pharmacy and pharmacology (ranked 10th in the Daily Mail University Guide 2025). The course has a state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Suite, with everything you need to gain hands-on experience during your studies, including consultation rooms and a simulated pharmacy. You'll also have access to excellent labs and the use of the clinical research facilities in our Hugh Sinclair Unit.

I highly recommend you contact Fiyinfoluwa via our ambassador scheme, as she can answer all of your pharmacy questions and provide extra information about the university.

A great aspect of the University of Reading is the contextual offers for all the courses, which means that each application is accessed individually, and the outcome of the application is decided on individual circumstances.

It is recommended prospective students attend an Open Day or have a look at the Virtual Tour, as this provides the best overview of the university and allows you to see if you feel the university is right for you.

I hope this extra information helped, and I highly recommend you contact Fiyinfoluwa, as she's great to help answer questions.

All the best,
Ella 😀

Hi @mediccomeback!
My name is Dom and I'm a 4th year MPharm student at the University of Nottingham.

Nottingham university is the 7th best Universities in the UK for Pharmacy, according to Complete University Guide 2025. With a new course being accredited by the GPhC recently, we are at the forefront of Pharmacy training in the country, with prescribing rights now being incorporated into the course.

We pride ourselves on using DMP (drug, medicine, patient) modules.
Drug = What is the drug? how to formulate it? how it works in the body?
Medicine = what other things do we need to add to it? How should it be given? IV, Oral, inhaler?
Patient = How will the patient take it? what are the side effects for the patient? Why does the patient need this medicine? counselling points for the patient.
These modules allow us to look at the whole journey for a drug from discovery to use.

The university itself is wonderful, with fantastic connections to the city, via buses or trams, and good connections to other cities too. The campus is nice and green, with Highfields lake available for boating in the summer months. We have a state of the art sport facility David Ross Sports Village, where many clubs and societies train. If sports isn't your thing we have many other societies on offer, and if there happens to be a society that doesn't exist yet, then you can make one yourself!

The pharmacy course has its own society known as PharmSoc. This is a gold star society meaning it is a fantastic club, with our own IMS sport teams, and socials.

If you want to have a look at our campus either in person or a virtual tour, and learn a bit more about why Pharmacy is so great at Nottingham, then have a look at these websites:

Hey,

Thanks for the response, I’ll definitely take this into account.

I’m also resitting and I am highly considering Bath. Shame QUB also seems incredibly far for me, so not an option for me either.

In terms of writing personal statement I’m also struggling 😭. But I’m planning on sending my application off before the new year. What about you?

If it wasn’t for the resitting entry requirements I would have definitely applied. Shame.

I didn't see that. My best advice is to call or email the universities directly so you can ask any questions you have with those in admissions, it's best to find out from them. But I wouldn't stress out too much about how they may look at your application because you are resitting, if anything it to show how much experience and maturity you have gained from retaking.

Hiya! Sorry for the late reply,

So glad to hear you’re considering pharmacy at Bath

As a 4th year pharmacy student at Bath, hopefully I can provide some insight to help with your decision.

Bath has a strong academic reputation and is consistently ranked among the top in the UK, both overall and for pharmacy specifically. The pharmacy program is well-structured and has a strong emphasis on integrating science with clinical practice, so students are well prepared for the workplace.

The uni offers numerous opportunities for networking. Our strong ties in industry, hospital trusts, and community pharmacies provide students with great placement opportunities. The university also hosts guest lectures and career fairs, connecting students with professionals from various pharmacy sectors.

While it’s true that Bath is not as large or diverse as some bigger cities like London, I think it has an inclusive community with lots of societies and events celebrating a wide range of cultures.

My advice is to attend an open day if possible to get a feel for the environment and talk to current students.

Let me know if you have any questions

Good luck with your applications,
Lauren, University of Bath
