Hello everyone :elefant:
Congratulations on receiving your offer from the University of Chester!
If you have any questions about the University, now that you have your offers, or want to know more about something please feel free to ask and I will do my best to help or at least point you in the direction of someone at Chester who can help you.
In the meantime, we have lots of offer holder days at the University where you can come and visit us. These days are a bit like open days, but specifically designed for you. The departmental staff, support staff and current students are all on hand to tell you all you need to know about the university now that you have an offer. Simply book on the date that is convenient to you and we will see you then.

I’ll be joining the University of Chester this October 2025 for the MSc Biotechnology program. I’m coming from Jamaica 🇯🇲 and super excited, but also trying to prepare as much as I can—especially since this is a whole new country, culture, and academic system for me!

I’d love to hear from current students, alumni, or anyone who knows a bit about what it’s like studying at Chester or doing a postgrad science degree in the UK. Specifically:

What should I look out for as a new international student? (Culture shocks? Helpful services? Budgeting tips?)

What are the lectures and lab sessions like for the MSc Biotech program?

Which modules are the most interesting/challenging, and any tips on how to approach them?

Any lecturers you found super helpful (or... a bit tough to deal with 😅)?

Housing recommendations is uni accommodation worth it, or should I look elsewhere?

Any general “insider tips” you wish you knew before starting? (Even random ones are welcome!)

Feel free to be brutally honest—I’d rather be over-prepared than caught off guard. Also, if you’re also starting in Oct 2025, let’s connect! 😊

Hi @LiviPanda

It's great to hear that you are joining us in October 😀

You've got some great questions which is a really good way to prepare for your arrival! I would recommend finding some MSc Biotechnology students and some international students to chat to here. Hopefully you can find some current students who are able to answer your questions.

I would also make use of the International section of our website which has lots of useful information about moving to the UK and studying at Chester.

Good luck with your preparations and let us know if we can help in any way.

Best wishes,
Becky

If you have any questions, or worries you'd like to ask before you come to Chester, please feel free to ask, I'm happy to answer anything and if I can't help straight away I'll try and find out for you.
