Hello. My son has an offer for Maths and is looking forward to the offer holders day. He can’t find any details about the timings for the day (and neither can I). Typically when do the days start? We are travelling from Kent so need to plan ahead a little bit.

Hi there,

I also have an offer from Lancaster for Computer Science next year and have had a look for offer holder days.
I found this on their website here, however it doesn't contain any specific details, although it does mention that offer holders should sent an invitation in due course.
If you are travelling from Kent (I'm from the Isle of Man so need to plan a bit too) probably aim for the day in March or April, in terms of timings it may be similar to the open days which I believe were open between 9am and 4pm on a Saturday.
Hopefully this helps a little bit

Hi,

Here is the page for the Mathematical Sciences offer holders. Mathematical Sciences - Lancaster University

To make it easier the date are as follows:

1st February 2025

15th February 2025

22nd March 2025

26th April 2025

With the program being as follows:

Meet students and academic staff from the School of Mathematical Sciences

Find out more about our programmes including placement and study abroad variants

Experience what problem solving is like at university

Learn more about student life at Lancaster from the people who know about it best - our students

Meet other offer holders ... who could become your future coursemates!

I can't say for certain how the Maths department runs their days as I'm a computer Science student however I can tell you that the computer science offer holders follow a schedule from 11 till 4 but between 9 and 11 they will have the opportunity to have campus and accommodation tours, speak to student societies, colleges, careers and global experience teams to name a few and get a better feel for the campus itself before they learn more about the department and experiences within the degree itself and what to expect from the course.

I would assume this is similar for Maths and details should be sent out but in the meantime if you did want to ask please do contact [email protected], stating your sons name, UCAS ID and course, and they'll be able to advise!

From working as an Ambassador on Offer Holder Days, applicants are usually collected from the learning zone, subject dependent, between 10.30 and 11.30 and taken to their first "station" for the day, typically a welcome lecture or talk. But like mentioned above from 9am there are tours, general talks and opportunities to explore the campus and more about the non-academic side of the university. This is optional and you can pick and choose what you see or go to but if you were wanting to do this then getting to campus for 9am would be recommended so you can fit everything in before you start the departmental side of the day.

Hope this helps, Ella - Lancaster University Student Ambassador

Hi,

I'm a 3rd year computer science student.

Letters are being sent out to offer holders with details of their offers and offer holder days and how to book so do keep an eye out on your post!

The dates are as follows:

1st February 2025

15th February 2025

22nd March 2025

26th April 2025

The schedule for the day is yet to be finalised however as an ambassador for the course I can give you a run through of the last offer holder day. As mentioned in my response above, between 9 and 11 there was the opportunity to go on a campus tour and accommodation tour to get a better feel for the campus and living spaces. At the same time there was talks and staff available to speak to about fees and funding, global experiences, the student union, mental health and well being etc. Between 11 and 11.30 registration took place followed by the welcome talk from 11.30 till 12.15. Then Lunch was provided between 12.15 and 1. The experience talk then took place between 1.15 and 2. At this stage applicants and their guardians were split with the applicants going on to have a teaching taster section 2 till 3 followed by lab tours and demos 3.30. Guardians had lab tours and demos 2 till 2.45 and then a Q and A session with academic staff. Finally from 3.30 till 4, applicants and guardians had the opportunity for refreshments (coffee and cake!) and to ask any other questions they may have.

If you follow this link School of Computing and Communications - Lancaster University you will find more information as well as a sample schedule for the day so do check that out! There is also a link on this page to book onto the offer holder day so if you have a date in mind then do book onto that!

Hope this helps and any questions be that about the university or the course I'm more than happy to help!

You're welcome!!

If you are wanting to stay in a hotel there are some in the city centre and just outside depending on budgets, preferences etc. but if you didn't already know the University has Guest Rooms on campus with bed and breakfast as well as a hotel next to campus if that would make the day easier for you!

Hi! I'm currently doing A levels Law, Psychology and Sociology I got an offer for Lancaster for the course law. I got the offer AAB and planning to firm it(so they will reduce it down to ABB). If it goes bad on results day and get BBB, would my place at the uni go or would they still consider me?

I have an offer holder day for film, media, and cultural studies. The information said that we would get an email for booking but nothing has come through; what should I do? I have emailed Lancaster a few times but their has been no response.
Do you know what will happen during the day their?

Also, will adults and children be able to stay together or separated? I have separation anxiety and would like my mum to stay close. X

Hi @anonymous #1

Usually if your insurance choice is BBB or lower and Lancaster does not accept the theoretical BBB, you would automatically go to your insurance choice. On results day, if you are rejected by Lancaster, you can then apply via clearing which is where uni course grade requirements usually decrease a bit (however, no guarantees) if there is still space on the course.

Hope that helps,
Rachel -Lancaster University Student Ambassador.

Hi @Anonymous #2

Some other emails that may help are [email protected] or [email protected]
You should get an itinerary of the day when you book it (you can also ask the emails above for it) and a physical copy on the day which will let you know what's happening.
There will be campus tours and accommodation tours you can go on to have a look around and get a feel of the uni. Additionally you usually have a tour of your department, some talks about what your course involves and a Q&A session with current students (check with your department for specifics). Your parents are welcome on campus and to attend the talks alongside yourself as the offer holder too 🙂 most prospective students come along with their parents.

Hope that helps,

Hi, I'm applying to Biomedical Science and attending the open day on 8th Feb! Is it fine for both of my parents to attend with me or can only one come? I would definitely be much more comfortable if both could attend, thank you either way ☺️

Hi,

As a Computer Science student I can't say whether you would be allowed to bring both with you but I know for applicants on an SCC offer holder day they are asked that were possible they only bring 1 parent / guardian just because of the number of seats and spaces in the allocated lecture theatre and within the labs as there have been occasions where there aren't enough seats for everyone.

I would check with the department before you come, just drop them an email [email protected] and ask whether it would be okay to bring both.

If they do say it is only one parent, you can always return on an open day to show the other parent around your department and meet the staff but obviously this would depend on travel and being available on the day. Another consideration would be to bring both but only have 1 sit in with you in the lectures or other activities you'll have on the day and swapping them in and out - being mindful and considerate of other applicants and their parent having seats / spaces / lunch etc. that way they both get to experience part of the day but you do still only have 1 parent per session.

Hope that helps and makes sense - Ella, Lancaster University Student Ambassador
