Congrats to you too, how did you do in the PAT?
I bombed it and got a 49 so I presume it was my interview that carried my application.

Hi, Mansfield Maths offer holder, I wonder if every got the same(equivalent) offer for math? I'm doing IB so it's 667 for my Higher Levels and 7 for math. This should be equivalent to AAA* with A* for Maths in A-Levels.

Nobody has to learn punting lol although some do. The colleges have their own punts

Anyone know how likely we are to end up at the college that sent the offer if it is an open offer?

I've also got an engineering offer. I'm doing Maths, Physics, Further and chem. I think I'm going to drop chem though because Hertford said they didn't really care about it

Yeah fair enough chem is so long. But further is ramping up as well. The questions are easy enough I guess but I'm pretty sure it will be around 90% for an A* so VERY unforgiving of small mistakes (LIKE FORGETTING TO CHANGE THE LIMITS FOR INTEGRATION BY SUBSTITUTION) but yeah hopefully we got this. How was the PAT?

you don't need A* in further for engineering, and also i feel the mistakes will average out over 4 super long papers. With the lottery of physics markschemes however, I still think it's the best bet though.

Congrats! I got an offer for law @ Wadham.

Hello,

Congrats! I'm applying for the Oxford law foundation year, and interviews for us are held in March (I believe). I was wondering what super curriculars/reading you did? Also what was the interview like? (Discussion topics, e.t.c...) LNAT score?

Finally, if you have any tips that would be much appreciated .

Persuade someone else to punt, while you loll about on the cushions.

Punting is in fact quite easy once you get the hang of it. The trick is to place the pole upright next to the side of the punt and keep the pole next to the punt as you push the pole towards the stern in order to drive the punt forwards. Twist the pole to remove it from the muddy riverbed, and repeat the stroke. To steer, use the punt and the pole as a lever, pushing the pole to one side or the other whilst pressing the pole against the punt. There should be no need to use the paddle unless you drop the pole. The paddle is too small to counter steer against the pole if you are going the wrong way, so your helpful friend paddling at the front is wasting his or her effort. If you feel the pole sticking, let go, unless you wish to fall into the river for comedic effect. You can always paddle back to retrieve the pole. Be sure not to punt from the Cambridge (ie wrong) end of the punt!

TL/DR: links below to bonkers Oxonian terminology.

Hey you lot! You do realise that you're about to join a cult, yeah? Your only escape from the cult is to stuff up your A levels or IB etc. If you have already got the grades for your offer, you are doomed, or at least you will be once you have matriculated at a secret ceremony in the Sheldonian Theatre which involves summoning Beelzebub and all that sort of thing. It's done in Latin to appear respectable.

Like any self-respecting cult, Oxford has its own whacky vocabulary. Below are some guides to Oxlingo. If in doubt, just put "Ox" in front of everything. That way you will soon be fluent in Oxnonsense. If you feel old fashioned, add "er" to the end of everything, but to do this convincingly you need to be lying in a punt dressed like Anthony Blanche or Zuleika Dobson.

Your college is a cult within a cult, and may also have an argot. For example everything at Wadham is Wadthis or Wadthat or Wadtheother. Some colleges don't even go by their real names. New College (so called because it's old) and Brasenose are two such colleges.

Confused? You will be! Slam your exams or enjoy your gap year, and have fun come October.

NB: You really DO have to work super-hard right from the get go, but there really ARE lots of opportunities for fun of every kind. Having fun is very important, to prevent academic overload.

Expect to be exhausted by Christmas, but hopefully in a good way. Please never hesitate to ask for information and help from your college. It's not a school. It's a community, and wants you to get the most out of Oxford academically and socially.

Congrats once again on your offers.
