What is SOAS university like? Anyone go there or applied there? Am interested in Law. Thanks
Hello,
I am currently studying Law LLB at SOAS so I can give you a little insight.
Law at SOAS is quite unique - SOAS is known as the 'world's university' because teaching here is focused on the areas we specialise in (Asia, Africa and the Middle East). So, your law degree is based on more than just the average English Legal System instead you get a more globalised understanding of law in different contexts. This is very useful in the new age of globalisation (companies doing business with other organisations across the world) and companies value this in graduates.
In terms of the student atmosphere, SOAS has a smaller student cohort than most universities and we have a really close-knit community. This also makes it easier to stand out because there are a lot of opportunities to get involved in, for example, our Law Society holds amazing networking events and the Debating Society competes in very competitive debates.
By far the best part of SOAS (in my opinion), is the SOAS Library. It is 1 of 5 national research libraries in the UK and has amazing, quiet study spots.
