UAL applications 2025/26, foundation & undergrads?

I'm applying to UAL for the foundation pre-degree but have heard it's quite competitive and am worried I won't get in. I'm a grade 12 right now. Should I apply to the undergrad courses I want to attend alongside the foundation degree? I want to go into costume design at either LCF or Wimbledon. I'm wondering if I should apply to only the foundation and focus on that and risk not getting any other offers or try and apply for everything. Also, side question, is it okay to have some of the same projects for your portfolio in different course applications? Unsure if I have to make like 15 (3-5 each) separate projects for each application.

I would highly suggest you apply for both the foundation course and BA courses... it is also safer to apply to other universities than just UAL (as backup choices). As you said, UAL is very competitive and hard to get in because most of them are internal applications. (foundation students going into BA) and every year there are hundreds of foundation students within UAL, you can just imagine how little space that is left for external applicants.

It is definitely okay to submit the same portfolio to different applications. I would suggest tweaking each versions to meet the requirements for each course if that makes sense.

If you’ve not already applied, I’d highly recommend the diagnostic foundation course. My daughter’s doing it now and loves it. After a couple of months on the course (they’re all based at Lime Grove) trying lots of different disciplines, you then choose to specialise and my daughter is going down the costume route (depending on your area of study you’ll either stay at Lime Grove or be based at Archway - which she is). It’s far exceeded all our expectations - it’s been amazing so far. She’s now applying through UCAS to continue at UAL next year but also applying elsewhere as there’s no 100% guarantee she will get an offer for her chosen degree at UAL.

Hi! I'm an international thinking about going to UAL for pre-degree foundation and I would love to hear more about your daughter's experience there!!!

I'm currently debating between Parsons and UAL because there's no guarantee that I will get in to the undergrad course I want if I go to UAL, and then it would be a waste to not go to Parsons for 4 years instead.

In your opinion, or your daughter's, do you think that doing pre-degree at UAL is worth it or play it safe at a 4 year school with the first year as foundation?

Asking this of anyone applying or currently studying at UAL Wimbledon - specifically the BA in Costume for Performance. Any idea how many days per week students are expected to be on campus? Realise there will be some independent learning and online lectures but just interested in likely number of days students are actually on site…
