Hi!

Happy to hear you are considering YSJ!
Our nursing course is one of our most popular courses here at YSJ, we have on campus state of the art facilities including two mock wards with interactive dummies. Our nursing course offers the opportunity for a wide variety of placements in many settings - so you can really get a feel for what your career will be like.
YSJ is a small university meaning your classes are likely to be smaller, this can be a pro or a con depending on what you prefer. Personally, I enjoy the smaller class sizes as I feel more comfortable asking questions and my lecturers have time to spend one-on-one explaining any content I don'y understand. However, I know this environment is not a priority for everyone.

Hope this helps! I have attached the link to our nursing course page, but feel free to reach out with any other questions!

Hey I was a first year adult nursing student at ysj this year but unfortunately had to suspend this month. I may be joining back next year depending on the results of my complaint. If you have any questions about the course I don’t mind answering them from a student perspective
About placements for ysj you will mainly be at Harrogate hospital as most places at York hospital are for students at university of York. Think there is only 6 spaces at York hospital for ysj. Accommodation is close to the uni but isn’t near Harrogate hospital it’s just over 20 miles away. I know a lot of people who were in Harrogate have spent quite a bit of money on parking etc as it hasn’t given them a ticket so they can get it back. If your like me and can’t drive you’d have to get the train but it won’t get into Harrogate on time for handover. I sort of wish I went to York uni just for placement sake really I know I wouldn’t be guaranteed York hospital but it would have been better for me. The course structure there also seems better. At ysj for the first 4 weeks you are there everyday mon-fri and then you start placement last week of October for 6 weeks. It very much feels like you have been thrown in the deep end it will get easier though. For me I found it hard as well as you have 4 weeks of knowledge (unless you have previous experience). You’ll then attend uni every Monday during your placement block which was usually 9-5:30. York uni I spoke to a second year student whilst I was at placement and you go to uni and start placement around January. You get all your anatomy out the way and whilst at placement there was no uni. I chose ysj as lectures are smaller there where around 55 people studying nursing (mental + adult) this year So it was easier to ask questions etc. I have to admit I went into placement pretty clueless there where some questions which never got answered by our lecturers however they are all lovely. Luckily there was a Snapchat gc so questions could be asked there. You’ll have your first mock exam in November with the real deal in January you need 80%+ to pass. With uniform you’ll get your tunics and name badge but you’ll have to buy your own straight navy trousers and black trainers and any other bits like fob watch etc. you don’t really get a choice on your placement and if you don’t like it they just say it’s tough. You can try and change but they only change if it’s exceptional circumstances.

Could you tell me if the exams are done online or in person on campus?
