Regents Park College

I know it is a wonderful friendly place to be while you are at Oxford… but do RPC students find themselves constantly having to explain the college to everyone who asks which college they are at/applying for - does this detract from the Oxford experience both while there and in life after uni?
Yes, I do appreciate how lucky it is for anyone to go to Oxford in any capacity whatsoever and that it is mainly about the course… but I am just curious. I have spoken to a couple of people (including alumnae) who haven’t heard of it and seem dismissive, which, I’ll be honest, irritated and bothered me. Again - I do realise it isn’t just about the prestige of going to Oxford, it is about the learning, but, as I say, I am curious to know how people really feel about it. Looking forward to some staunch protectiveness from students who are/were there!

RPC is a lovely, small, friendly college. Anyone who is or was at Oxford and hasn't heard of |RPC is missing a trick. Bear in mind that every college rubbishes every other college, and that big and famous colleges affect indifference or scorn towards small and not famous colleges, but ignore all that; it's just part and parcel of the Oxthing.

Your points are fair but you have to move on from that way of thinking because there are many other colleges that are not well known like St. Anne’s, St. Hugh’s, Kellogg, Wycliff Hall, Linacre, Green Templeton etc.

Thank you - I have moved on, just concerned whether others have! It does seem a really lovely college and I haven’t heard a bad thing about it yet.

It should not be your concern whether others have not moved on. The focus should be enjoying your time at RPC and Oxford. You should take advantage of the opportunities afforded to you, not whether anyone knows RPC over Christchurch, Merton or Balliol.

That is exactly what I was saying in my first post?! Aggressive… it was an honest question.

It was not aggressive. It was a fair question but the answer is to move on as the benefits outweigh the concern.

Stop being aggressive Mr Wired - This is the sort of thing someone from ChristChurch or Balliol would do!

I was not being aggressive. I was responding to the OP because similar concerns have been voiced by some students in the past.

First year here, people do know of it, but we're not that known. It is more like 'if you know you know', we have some students here that are quite active in uni societies and sports e.g. the current Union president is a post grad at regent's. I get your fears I was the same, but the college pride here is unlike anything else, I've been told multiple times that when someone goes Regent's you will know it, we wear our college on our sleeve. It does not detract from the experience as much as going to an actual college that is also small.

Thank you - that is exactly the sort of reply I was hoping for
