Creative Writing at Aberystwyth

Hello. As the title says, I am looking to study creative writing at Aberystwyth and I was hoping that others could tell me about their experiences? Thank you!
Hey!

Apologies for the late response. It's great to hear that you’re considering studying Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University! While I don't study Creative Writing, I can tell you a bit about the university, the environment, and what makes studying here a great experience.

First things first, Aberystwyth is a special place. One of the first things you'll notice is the beautiful seafront, which stretches along the coast and offers breathtaking views. The sunsets here are spectacular and add to the town’s inspiring atmosphere. Beyond the scenery, there’s a strong sense of community in Aberystwyth that makes it feel like home almost as soon as you arrive.

The Creative Writing course at Aberystwyth is designed to give you a solid foundation in writing across different forms, including fiction, poetry, screenplays, etc. The university emphasizes both the creative and analytical aspects of writing, helping you develop your voice whilst learning how to critique and refine your work effectively. I’ve personally heard great things about how approachable and encouraging the lecturers are. You'll be assigned a Personal Tutor from your department who will be able to support you and guide you throughout your time at the university.

You'll also benefit from unlimited access to the National Library of Wales (conveniently located right next-door!) It’s an amazing resource for students, offering access to an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, and archives. We also pride ourselves in our vibrant student life, with over 90 societies and 50 sports clubs, there's something for everyone! There's an English & Creative Writing Society where you can meet others who share your passion, exchange ideas, and even collaborate on projects.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions about the university or course, please don't hesitate to reach out! I will try my best to answer or guide you to the right people to ask!

All the best,
Mostafa

Hello again. I was wondering how large the intake is for this course, and how many students are in a seminar?

Thank you in advance

Hi there,
I got in touch with the department and this was their reply:
The English and Creative Writing Department has approximately 140 first year students.
Most of our modules are delivered primarily through seminars and/or workshops, and these tend to have smaller cohorts - we tend to keep groups smaller whenever possible, somewhere between 15 and 20 students.

I hope this is what you were looking for - please let me know if I can help with anything else at all
