Suspension help

So I just yesterday had a stage 4 meeting regarding my attendance and engagement and they decided to suspend me until September 2025. This was a massive shock to me and to be honest I am absolutely distraught and feel I have not been treated fairly at all. The only communication I have gotten is from my course leader on the 11th November stating that he wanted to have a stage 2 meeting to discuss why my attendance was so bad (it was at 48%, which is not ideal but not the worst in my opinion). I stated that the day he suggested a friday i could not make as i had work (also the reason for my attendance) i was told that was no issue and that we can catch up next week. That was just under 4 weeks ago , i also had a exam week which i also told him i could not make a exam due to work which he was aware about 2 weeks ago and i was told that was fine also. Reading through the universities policy they have skipped out stage 2 and 3 and jumped to 4 with no real reasoning. I plead with the student support team and my course leader in the meeting as i was under no impression this meeting was that serious after only having a email from him previously. I have ultimately spoken to student union to plead for advice and guidance on appealing however i’m just looking for advice from others regarding my appeal and the situation.
You can try to appeal but unless you have a firm reason to explain your attendance and engagement figures I'm afraid I don't think you will find it has much traction.

Low attendance this early on in the course is a bit of a red flag and non-engagement with the team will not have helped matters.

All medical students are governed by strict attendance policies because of fitness to practice considerations and so it's not like being on a usual University course unfortunately. In the eyes of the school low attendance= unsafe practice which is a big GMC-backed consideration. I know people who had their collar felt for not achieving 80% attendance in each semester.

My financial situation was poor causing me to work a lot during the first month to find extra money. They know this. They did not give me any notice that this was even a possibility though ? Also they did not follow their procedure at all. I’m also doing Law i have no idea why medical is tagged.

Are you a home or International student? I know at my university , they don't mind about home students so much , example I usually either go to the lecture or just tutorial never both and our attendance also includes how much you engage on moodle. International students are a different thing as it's part of there visa and some will come to to go uni but work full time .

Tbf, it seems there is a pattern that you missing everything from meetings , lectures to exams because of work. Sounds like you working more or less full time hours. The reason they suspended you is because they probably think you only going uni to get your student loan payments and working too. So you want a full time wage and free money from student finance without actually engaging. You need to make a choice do you want uni or go into work full time. They don't usually make these decisions lightly so probably there is more to the story and they have given up chasing you .You can't have like 3k loan installment and get a full time wage . Uni is not just to get the student loan lmao

Exactly, and it's because there are some students who will just go uni to get their student loan and work full time . For them to go to that stage , I have a feeling there is more to it . They have an interest to keep students and only do things if they have no choice.

Oh. You seem to have more insight on the situation and I agree that isn't great.
