What’s the best way to manage stress during assignment deadlines?

Deadlines can be stressful, especially when multiple assignments pile up. How do you handle the pressure and keep your stress levels under control? Are there any specific techniques or routines that help you stay calm and productive?

Make a list of everything you need to do

Grade it and order it from the top down (marked out of ten) on mental pain & difficulty

Identify assignments that need supplementary material to be able to complete them. Access this and ensure other assignments don't require xyz in order to submit them. Submit that piece of work first.

Decide a clock based time limit and choose one assignment (or the assignment with the shortest date for submission) Do that first. Use the clock to focus & hone your efficiency (and your effectiveness)

Don't look too far forward. Only deal with the next ten minutes. Never look forward even a day once you have a moment free as this will defeat you.

Reassure yourself you have done everything possible and practical to lessen the workload. Do a bit (or a lot) each day

Remember it is better to submit 'something' before the deadline - even if it fails. If you do this you can usually do a retake. If not you may forfeit that opportunity to do a retake and lose the whole year.

Good question! @Morganwesley

I wish I prioritised my mental health and wellbeing more, instead of cramming in so much work and not giving myself more time to take regular breaks, get out in nature, go for walks, make sure I was still doing the things I love, keeping in contact with loved ones, planning things for the future to look forward to. That would have definitely helped keep my stress levels under control!

Hi @Morganwesley !

I think that this time of year can be really stressful when you have lots of assignments and I know I have been feeling stressed recently thinking about all of the work that I need to do!

To help me feel less stressed, I like to make to do lists with everything that I need to do and split the tasks over the amount of days that I have free that week. The helps me to feel more organised and less overwhelmed with the amount I need to do as it is split up into chunks. I also struggle when I have lots of things to do with no plan so this really helps me out.

I also like to plan fun things too as this helps a lot knowing that you have things to look forward to. Try and plan one fun thing a week at least so you have something to look forward to as you don't want to spend all of your time working as this isn't great for your mental health.

Also, try to have some time in the evening or the morning to do something for yourself, even if this is just a walk or watching a show you like. I know this isn't always possible but it helps me out a lot to just switch off from work for a little bit!

I hope some of these help,

Hi There,

When it comes to handling deadlines and stress, I would recommend breaking down your tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Start by making a to-do list and prioritizing assignments based on their deadlines and difficulty. It helps to set specific time blocks for each task and avoid distractions during those times. I also find that taking short breaks every 45-60 minutes is really useful for staying focused and avoiding burnout. A quick walk or relaxation exercise can make a big difference. Staying organized with tools like Google Calendar or Trello can help keep track of everything. If it ever gets too overwhelming, don't be afraid to ask for help from your tutors or classmates. By sticking to a routine, staying organized, and allowing yourself some downtime, you’ll be able to manage the pressure and stay productive.

I hope this steps helps you in your study time.
