repeating year 12 vs apprenticeship

so ive discussed about repeating year 12 before and ive had a few replies which is great but i was wondering if I failed year 12 (which I don't know if its possible, please tell me if it is or isn't) I could either repeat it or drop out of sixth form entirely to do a level 3 apprenticeship in business administration? tell me what you think because id really like to know. im getting my gcse certificates soon anyways so I'll be able to provide proof that I did my gcses. i don't know if i should be posted this in the apprenticeship section or here, if any moderators read this please move it to the apprenticeship section if necessary.

you cannot fail year twelve, there are no official exams involved. If you arent doing well in your alevels at the moment, dont stress. its still very early on. i would suggest creating a solid revision timetable - you should be reviving your subjects even if you dont have exams. Just make sure you stay on top of the work.

alevels and apprenticeships can lead you into slightly different areas and you can always do an apprenticeship after alevels. i wouldnt give up now...

good luck with whatever you choose

you dont have to do as exams, i havent and am in year 13... some schools or colleges may make you do them, but they dont define your final alevel. if you know that you are going to finish the alevel maybe treat them as a mock?

im in year 12 and i have to do them in my school. thanks ill take on board your advice.
Hi there,

If you were to fail Year 12, it is possible to repeat the year, depending on your school’s policy and your individual circumstances. Most schools offer the option to retake Year 12 if you don’t meet the required standards. Alternatively, you may choose to leave sixth form and pursue a Level 3 apprenticeship in Business Administration. Apprenticeships are an excellent choice, offering practical experience alongside qualifications, which can be a great pathway into a career. If you decide to pursue this route, your GCSE certificates will serve as essential proof of your academic background. It’s important to carefully consider your options and seek advice from your school’s career guidance team or a mentor to make an informed decision about your future.

I hope this helps you.

Repeating year 12 could be helpful if you feel like you’ve missed stuff for personal reasons or anything (i think I remember you mentioning that). Sixth forms get 3 years of funding for students (that’s what i got told anyway) so they should have funding for you to do this. Quite a few people in my sixth form repeat a year or sit in on year 12 classes as a year 13 or repeat their a levels or whatever. Im going to be doing 3 years of sixth forms so i can spread my subjects out more for personal reasons. My advice would be to talk through your options with your head of sixth/year and see what they think would be the best option- if youre really struggling now you could maybe be allowed to take this year out and re-enrol next year (unsure if that’s possible but worth asking if it seems like a good option). Im not sure how to advice on the apprenticeship cos i have really limited knowledge but I guess you should just choose what’s more enjoyable for you and what you’ll do better at- if youre still wanting to go to the OU for uni then theyre be no requirements but if you’ve changed what you wanna do then check requirements ofc.

ok thanks. idk if I still want to go to the OU, people have recommended me to go to a brick uni instead if I went to uni but I keep on changing my mind about my post 18 options. the thing is I want to go to go straight into employment and the next I want to go into an apprenticeship. it fluctuates constantly. I don't want to get into student debt, that's the thing. i think it's because of my unstable mental state.
