Uni: Dundee or Edinburgh (staying home vs moving out)

I am conflicted between staying at home for university or moving to another city.

The course I really want to do (Electrucal engineering) isn’t offered at my local university, Dundee. If I wanted to do this degree, my best bet would be Heriot Watt or Napier. My second choice is to study MechE (which I am kind of into as well, just not as much as EE) in Dundee whilst living at home.

Dundee = cheaper, no long commute, BUT second choice course and not much independence (I wouldn’t pay for accom since i live so close)

Edinburgh = the course i really want, maybe forces independence, BUT isn’t the cheaper option, is it really worth it?

Even if I can afford it, would it be betterr to save and stay or move out?

Ps: I forgot to mention, I would stay at home in Dundee, but would move out for Edinburgh. I am specifically fixated on Napier and HW since their grade requirements aren’t as intense as Strathclyde and Glasgow and I actually meet them.
I would always recommend that students use the opportunity of university to move out. You learn a lot about yourself doing this but it’s also a relatively sheltered process and one that you can change your mind about.
As above, you will have a bigger / broader / more interesting student experience at Napier, and they have the course you want to do.
The course is everything, surely? I’m a Dundee applicant coming down from the Highlands and know nothing about Napiers, but I think you’ve answered your question already.
