Surrey uni accommodation

Hi!
I want to know how the accommodation works, I’ve been given an offer and I want to know what the best accom is. I’m going to be doing law and I want an accom that’s actually social 😭 like I want to get to know lots of people.
I also want to know how everything works in terms of like paying as it’s so expensive and I’ll be moving from London to Surrey so I really want to know what it’s like from other people’s experiences !!

Hello 09kiki09,

With regards to the accomodation available at Surrey there's a variety of options and you can find information on the different types of accomodation here:
https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation/our-accommodation (I would strongly recommend reading the surrey page but I'll summarise below).

There's 6 main types of accomodation:
Shared rooms located in Stag Hill.

Where you share a Room, Kitchen and Bathroom.

The bed is Single-sized bed

Single rooms located in Hazel farm (These rooms are the furthest away from Stag Hill, the Main campus).

You will be sharing a Kitchen and Bathroom.

Some of the rooms have washbasins, some do not.

The bed is Single-sized

Budget Single rooms located in Stag Hill.

You will be sharing a Kitchen (with up to 15 people) and Bathroom.

Some of the rooms have washbasins, some do not.

The bed is Single-sized

Standard En-suite rooms located in Stag Hill and Manor Park (Manor Park is 20 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride to Stag Hill).

You'll have your own have your own Bathroom but will share a kitchen with others.

The bed is Single-sized

Premium en-suite rooms located in Manor Park

These are also Ensuite rooms except the bed and rooms are slightly bigger, the accomodation is also more modern at Manor Park compared to Stag Hill and Hazel Farm.

The bed is double-sized

Studio Flats also located in Manor Park

Here you'll have your own Kitchen and ensuite

The bed is King-sized

All rooms are fully furnished with a bed, desk and chair, reading lamp, bookshelf and storage for clothes.

I understand that your looking for accomodation that's social but is there anything else that's important to you when it comes to the accomodation that your looking for? e.g ensuite, close to campus, you have a budget in mind etc. This can help to further narrow down what type is best for and I can hopefully give further advice.

If you're looking for something social when it comes to accomodation then I personally wouldn't recommend getting a studio flat as the flat sizes are small (~6 people per flat), and you don't have a lot of shared facilities in my personal experience.

In terms of paying, when it came to paying for me accomodation, I received an invoice via email stating how much money I owed with a link on where I needed to pay and I paid in instalments. Things might end up being different for you however.

I hope that this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Imane
