UCL Maths 3 or 4 A levels?

Hi guys, I’m applying for Maths (G100) at UCL and i was wondering if dropping an a level would reduce my chances of getting in.

For context: Already applied but waiting for offer and i decided that taking an extra a level is tiring me out quite a lot and id like some extra time to focus on my other subjects.

I take Maths, Further maths, biology, chemistry (predicted A*A*AA) and i would like to drop biology
(8 9s 28s 1 7) GCSE including 8 in further maths for achieved grades context.

Another option is waiting until i get an offer and dropping one after but it’s something i wouldn’t really want to do considering mocks soon and offers coming so late into the year.

does anyone have experience with this or any advice? thank you

It says in entry requirements just A*A* or A*A in maths and fm with another a level, so you could drop bio

yeah but considering how competitive the course is will taking a fourth increase my chances of getting an offer? i know some unis don’t require 4 but that they take it into account as it shows a higher workload etc and i’m just a little scared i’d have decreased odds of making an offer considering there would be loads of people applying on 3A*/4A*

Was all 4 A level predictions in your application? I’m not too sure about the 3-4 and how competitive but if they give u and offer based off 3 A levels ( they prob will if u get an offer) u could drop 4th to work on the 3, as by the time u get the offer and accept it they can’t rlly retract offer thinking “they can’t take the workload we want” by u removing 4th. So unless u bound by an offer based off 4th there’s little risk (usually only Cambridge imperial do 4 a levels offers) especially because u above min req, and MAYBE they would understand 2As instead of 1 extra A* (not sure tho)

And u can’t rlly add onto your application that u dropped 4th so they won’t know so only risk of dropping bio early (which is what I did for fm also aiming for math and stats for ucl) is the offer but dk if they give those types of offers. Maybe check online

"I am studying more than 3 A levels, how will you view my application?

We will consider your 3 highest grades, including any required or preferred subjects. If you are studying more than three A levels, your offer may be based on the three most relevant subjects for your programme. "

Checked their FAQs and it said this, so you having A*A*AA would be treated exactly the same as someone with A*A*A. So in theory dropping biology shouldn't affect your chances, but you should email tge UCL admission team and ask just to be safe.

Unless you’ve applied to Imperial, I can’t see having 3 vs 4 A-levels would make a difference here.

I’ve only regularly seen Imperial give out 4 A-level offers, not seen any other university regularly do this but I might be wrong.
