Diversity in Uni of Glasgow

Can anyone who goes to the uni of Glasgow or has been for an open day tell me what the diversity is looking like ? I noticed that they seem to be the only uni (along with Edinburgh) that do not have an ACS society. From what I’ve heard and seen, it’s look like they’re not very diverse. Can someone please confirm ?

Hi there,

We have a wide variety of societies here at Glasgow including our African and Caribbean Society, you can find them on Instagram @glasgowuniacs !

In my personal experience at Glasgow, I've found it to be a very diverse campus, having met students, tutors and lecturers from various backgrounds and countries around the world.

The university website has an equality and diversity page which you can find here. Here you can find the universities equality and diversity policy as well as links to information and support for various student minorities.

Hope this is helpful and all the best with your application!
All the best,

Thank you so much
As someone who used to work at UoG, I can tell you they have a very strong equality department, but not when it comes to race. They got a LOT of bad press for racism. Google it and you might be able to find the media stories and reports. They have been working to address this but as I no longer work there, I can't say how succcessul its been.

Yikesss thank you for letting me know
I'm a current student. Glasgow uni is diverse, much more so than Strathclyde uni, more than a third of my science classes are made up of black, Asian and middle eastern students. I can confirm they have an afro Carribbean society, I've seen them at the black history month event they did 😀
There's lots of country societies around campus and in general there's loads of societies, honestly Glasgow uni is fab for societies and things to do.

Strathclyde uni has been more than 90% white from my experience of my sister going there. Glasgow Cally seems similarly undiverse though don't know anyone who goes there tbf. I think this is because Glasgow as a city in general isn't that diverse (though there are large asian and Chinese populations and it's much more diverse than Edinburgh) so because Cally and Strath are heavily commuter student biased and Glasgow uni has a more even mix of commuters and students moving to Glasgow that's why.
