Aberystwyth University Cascade Calculator

I'm a neurotic third year undergrad zoology student and I'm trying to get an idea of my grade boundaries in order to get a 1st. Maths is not my strong suit and I can't work out if I'm using the grade calculators online correctly.

To make it clear, our best 80 credits of year 3 are 3x weighted, the remaining year 3 and the best year 2 (combined 80) credits are 2x weighted, and the remaining 80 year 2 credits will be 1x weighted.

My marks for second year were 69, 76, 77, 78, 80 and 84, and my third year results so far are 69 and 70 (ish-haven't actually completed the module but I'm predicting the overall mark based on grades so far!). How would I go about calculating what I need to get a first overall? I'm worried that I've lost my mojo this year and that the first class result I've been hoping for may slip out of reach...

Any help is appreciated very much! Thank you

Hi! Thanks for your response. So I've actually managed to work out that I'm averaging at 76.6 if I count the 69 as one of my worst grades of year 3 (therefore 2x weighted rather than 3x!) and dismissing my incomplete module. That was just by multiplying each grade by its weighting (either 1, 2 or 3) which worked out as 766 out of 1000. But I'm still wondering what I would need to average through my remaining assessments in order to get that 1st. The complication is the different weightings, I guess. Not sure if it's even possible with so many variable factors... If only I were a maths student!

P.S. I know I should get a life... As previously mentioned- I am neurotic haha.

Well, I still don't understand all the ramifications, but it looks to me that all you need to do for the rest of the year is not f@ck up too badly!!! 😆

Hi, thank you! I know that my personal tutor will take the mick out of me so I'd rather avoid him with this issue 😆 but I think I understand it now anyway. Thank you for your response!
