HELP!! Dentistry with an access to he course

I did really bad in my a-levels (chem, maths, sociology) and I decided I wanted dentistry quite late so I couldn't pick up biology. i dont think ill do well if I resit now due to limited time and if I try doing biology in September ill need to find a college which will allow me to do the required practicals in one year which seems like a hassle. access to higher education course would solve all these problems but as dentistry is very competitive im not sure if I will stand a chance with it, especially considering I did very bad in my a levels. any advice would be appreciated

Hi, I've taught on Access to H.E for over 10 years, albeit on a Nursing and Midwifery Pathway so might be able to help. Indeed, dentistry is very competitive, however there are some Access to Dentistry programs out there at F.E colleges but they are lesson common because of the cost of the course is quite expensive to put on. Also, there is a general problem in F.E in that a qualified dentist can make more money being a dentist than teaching dentistry.

I would speak to the University you are interested in and see what Access programs they recommend. I would think a few online providers may advertise their Access to Science program to you, but i'm 99% sure that they wouldn't have the required modules on them.

I think Manchester College still does Access to Dentistry if you are in the northwest

Hi, I enrolled to an Access to HE course (science) in Leeds City College, and I’m thinking about dentistry. I already contacted the universities I’m interested in and I got a positive feedback. I’d also like to get your opinion. Thank you

If you checked with the university that Access Science modules match up with what they want for dentistry then you should be fine 🙂

I love Leeds, it's a great city the study, I went to Leeds Beckett for a year

Best of luck.

Hi there
The added complexity is that there are 14 dental schools and more than 35 medical schools. So the competition is even harder for dentistry for someone in your position compared to medical school. I know on Brighton there is a college that does Access to HE and BSMS give them interviews. One suggestion is if your heart into dentistry, how about applying into European universities some of which the fees are affordable but you have to pay the fees yourself not from student finance.
