Aston University or UoB for finance?

We all know Uob is the better Uni overall but I’ve been told certain universities are better specialised in certain subjects than others. Which one out of Aston and Uob is better for finance? (Also is it worth to go Uob but have to take a foundation year?)

Yes, whoever said to you that certain universities are better at some things than others they would be correct. For example marine biology, is best in Bangor University or Swansea, not Cardiff or Brighton etc. Firstly, I’m going to address in this case Uni of Birmingham will definitely be better for finance than Aston 100%. However, it’s about the networking you do in university that matters, not saying the degree in a whole is useless, but networking plays a massive element in if you get a good job after uni or even a job at all. Secondly, you said that you would have to take a foundation degree if you went to Uob, basically, if they think you’re doing well (too well) in the first couple of months they will put you into the regular Bsc classes. So it’s not a bad thing, but also you’re going into more “debt” in the grand scheme of things. I would look at places like Bangor, Aber, UWE, Swansea, Wolverhampton etc for that good middle ground where they accept you if you didn’t to well at A levels, but if you show you’re dedicated and actually put in the work you will succeed. Plus who says that you can’t go to a better uni for a MBA/MSc or PhD? If that’s what you want to go into. Sorry for the long response but hope this has helped you in some way  If you do decide to consider Bangor for finance, I can go more into it on modules what to expect etc as I attend Bangor uni (2nd year)

Thanks for your answer! You mentioned networking…. Could you go into that a bit more and what you mean by that?

Networking is basically going to events your uni holds where job recruiters will promote a business. You can chat to them and even some times the person who owns the business is there or someone very high up. This would be a massive benefit to you after uni. Not only that you have some of the best academic researchers in the world, who teach you every day! Some of them are just academic researchers but email them, read their work! Actually connect with them at university. Maybe you don’t want to go into academia but I can sure guarantee you that some of them academics know business that are looking for graduates and will recommend you, if they think you’re good enough. Ask in maybe your 2nd year, can you read some of the work they’re doing in research, discuss it with them! This is academia, where people change the world every day. Hope that helps in terms of networking, do u have any questions about content you might cover in general? I am more than happy to help

Wow, thanks for this insight! You mentioned you know about the content… I’d love to have some detail on that too
For finance and anything else I'd probably say UOB even with the gap year, however if it was business/business management or anything business-related, I'd go with Aston due to their higher rankings for business studies.
