So I have been withdrawn from uni last week| SFE question

Hi im wondering if I will have to repay any student loans immediately, I have been withdrawn in just my first year and first term of university.
That means 25% of the tuiton fees have been paid to my uni by sfe already and I have received my first installment of my maintenance loan.
I have no previous year of uni studies, I am taking a break from education until next september due to mental health.
My A level grades do not allow me to apply for any other universities for next september.
And I do not wish to go back to the uni I had been withdrawn from.
I am planning on taking an access diploma to higher education next september then going to a different university the 2026 september.
So will I have to repay anything immediately?
Do you know if your university notified SFE that your withdrawal was due to mental illness? If they have then your maintenance funding will be extended for 60 days after your withdrawal date. If they haven’t then SFE will be in touch soon to explain how much of your first maintenance instalment is classed as “overpaid” (at this point in the year it will normally be about 1/4 of the first instalment) and how to contact them to arrange repayment.
Don’t ignore this letter! SFE aren’t nasty and they will do their best to arrange a repayment plan that won’t put you into financial hardship but if you don’t talk to them then they will not know about any financial hardship and the debt could be passed to a debt collection company.

Hi I don't know what my uni told SFE, so I have emailed the course leader to ask. Thanks. So you're telling me i may have to pay back some of the first installment of my Maintenance Loan which is fine, but I want to know will I have to start repaying tuiton fees immediately?

No the tuition fees are repayable through the standard loan repayment - from the April after you leave your course if you’re earning over the repayment threshold.
Hopefully your university will have flagged your withdrawal as mental health related and you won’t have any of your maintenance classed as overpaid.

Thanks. Once the university notifies us of your withdrawal the assessors will do a reassessment based on the funding you received. If you withdrew prior to the end of the first term then you may have an overpayment - you will be notified of any overpayment once the reassessment is processed. From when the university updates us this is currently taking an estimated 12 working days. Thanks, Jason

12 working days have already gone by though, and I have not received any updates still. I have already informed sfe about the withdrawal and they have blocked future payments. But im not sure if they received anything from uni
Hi there,

We are unable to access accounts so we cannot check to see if we have received the Change of Circumstances. When you contacted us did we advise if we have received the Change of Circumstances? When you log into your online account what does it say for the status of your application?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,
No when i contacted i was NOT told that a change of circumstances has been received. My account is still on Application Approved status and the only thing that has changed is that my maintenance loan scheduled payments are blocked.

Hi there, then we'd require this from the university in order to get your application updated. I would advise contacting them (if we've not received this yet). Thanks, Jason
