Have I been overpaid student loan??

So i have reapplied for student finance as I am going back in January but I feel i have been paid too much.

I am living with my parents and it states the maximum loan while living with parents is £8,610. However I got my letter today and my loan is £12,121. They've broken it down like this:

Maintenance loan: £10,158
of which the special support element equals £4,327
Grants £1,963

I understand 4k of that is due to me being a lone parent hence why i applied for special support but am I really entitled to that much despite living with parents? I included living with parents in my application but they never asked for my parents income like they did last time, is this due to me being a parent now? Does their income not matter?

I'm going to be ringing SFE but they take ages to answer.

Hi there. That is correct, if you have care of a child then we no longer use your parents income and instead assess you for the highest amount as an independent student. In this case I would say that your entitlement is correct as you have now been given the highest amount. Thanks, David

Thank you. I have a couple more questions..

Will I get the full amount despite the fact I have completed the first semester a year ago? There wasn't an option to apply for half a year and I was told to apply for 24/25, do I need to inform SFE that I have already done first semester or will my uni do that? My entitlement letter says they will pay the first bit of tuition fee to my university on the 11th December but I'm not a student again until the 1st January, is it my universities job to tell them?

I'm worried about being overpaid or something!
Hi Melissa,

I would advise you speak to the university and get them to send us a Change of Circumstances to confirm your course dates. We will then use these dates to re-assess your entitlement as you may not be eligible for all that funding if you are not studying for the full academic year.

Thanks, Drew

Thank you. The university told me they will amend my student finance application as 25% of my tuition fee has been paid already. I'm assuming SFE will then re-assess my maintenance loan.
Hi Melissa,

Yes would re-assess both the Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan once the university send us the Change of Circumstances to update your course details.

Thanks, Drew
