Sixth form NLCS vs St Helen's

Hi, i've received offers from north london collegiate and st helen's for sixth form. However, st helen's is at walking distance while nlcs has a 50 minute commute.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on whether the teaching quality at nlcs is worth the commute, or if long journeys to school affects grades during a-levels.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you're definitely not boarding(apparently you can't), St helens will be a better choice. Commute won't effect your grade, but it's always easier and simpler to walk to school. It will save you time and you probably can sleep more.

hi there! sorry for the late reply, don't know how useful this is - I go to sthn and I highly recommend it to anyone who's considering coming. I had a friend who was in a similar scenario to you - she's been at sthn since prep school but she applied to nlcs for sixth form. she ended up getting a scholarship at nlcs but she still decided to stay at sthn because she went to the interview and found the environment a little too competitive + pressurising - she overheard a teacher speaking to a student who wanted an extension on her homework because of some difficulties at home etc but the teacher seemed to be pretty strict about sticking to the original deadlines.

for myself, i had sixth form offers from multiple popular grammar schools: dr challoners, henrietta barnett etc but i still decided to stay.

obviously nlcs does better academically but personally from my experience, it doesn't really matter where you go for sixth form as long as you work hard wherever you go. at sthn, we don't get any less support and advice for unis + further education etc than nlcs, but at the end of the day it's how much you're willing to put in urself.

hopefully seeing u next year x 🙃
