Student Finance Inquiry on a Spouse Visa

Hi, I am inquiring to know if i would be eligible for tuition only fee with given circumstances:

1. Married to a UK national
2. Lived in UK for last 3 years before first day of first academic year
3. On a 5 years spouse visa route to ILR (currently 3 years in but ILR has to be applied when 5 years mark is completed)
4. 25 years old
5. Computer science subject
6. Nationality Pakistani

My only confusion is that if I would be able to apply for a tuition fee only funding or full support considering my stay here has to be renewed on the 5 years mark of my spousal route. Would I still be able to get full support with maintenance loan or only tuition loan before I receive my ILR?

Hi there, when are you looking to start your course and what level of funding will this be? Thanks, Jason

My ILR will be applied for in 2027 as that would mark my 5 total years of time in marriage, for now i am on a spouse visa

Thank you. For you to be eligible for full funding the both of you must have been:

resident in the UK, Gibraltar, European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland for 3 years prior to the first day of the first academic year of the course, and

resident in - the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland at the end of the Brexit transition period on 31st December 2020 or; - resident in the UK at the end of the Brexit transition period on 31st December 2020 and were resident in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland immediately before moving to the UK on or after 1st January 2018.

Please also advise this information is based on 24/25 rules. So I would always advise checking any residency rules when applications go live should any regulations or rules change on a year to year basis. Thanks, Jason

Thank you. If you don't hold the ILR then you wouldn't be eligible for the full funding (maintenance loan) for the course. This advise is based on 24/25 regulations and rules so these can always change on a year to year basis. Thanks, Jason

Thankyou Jason, so when i do get to applying for finance I should expect only the tuition fee to be paid by SLC?

Sorry. I've edited my previous response to make it a bit clearer. To apply for the tuition fees only would be on an EU25N form which will be available in the spring of next year. We'll do an announcement on here when they are available and will also be available to assist with any help completing the application. Thanks, Jason
