The Student Room Group

Which uni for my firm?

I have applied to RHUL, Plymouth, Liverpool, Keele and Sussex
Liverpool is best for my course, but i'm unsure about the city and the students have a reputation of being "snobby"

RHUL and Keele are the most appealing to me, but I haven't heard stereotypes of the students at these (also the only two I have gone to open days for)

Please help me!! this is stressing me out😭

I know someone who went to Keele and they seemed to have a really good time there and as far as I’m aware there isn’t a ‘snobbish’ culture there and I haven’t heard any complaints about the uni. RHUL is also a good Uni however there’s not much in Egham as I’m sure you’re aware and so if you want a good nightlife it’s probably not the best place to go. Sussex is another good Uni but it’s gone down hill since it’s heyday and they keep laying off hundreds of staff members which is never a good sign at a university and it’s also a bit quiet like RHUL but still ranks very well for subjects like history. Plymouth I don’t know much about so I can’t say much on that nor Liverpool. My advice would be consider what you want for from Uni, like wherever you wanna live in a bustling city like Liverpool which has a vibrant nightlife or if you want something a bit quiet and a bit more grounded in terms of the people who attend these unis. Either way these are a really good selection and I hope I’ve been at least a little bit of help in you deciding upon your firm

Hi there,

It's great to hear you're considering studying with us!

One of the best things I would advise to help make your decision is to chat to one of our current students or a member of staff here: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/chat/. You can filter by 'Area of Study' to find a student on your chosen course and ask them any questions you may have about university life, your course, accommodation and more!

You can also join us for our next Online Open Day on Wednesday 15 January to find out more! For this event, we're offering two sessions for some of our departments, at 10am and 3pm, so you can choose which one suits you best: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/student-life/visit-royal-holloway/online-open-day-january-2025/.

You can also book a guided tour of our beautiful campus to discover more about us: https://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/student-life/visit-royal-holloway/book-a-campus-tour/

If you need any further help, do let us know.

Best wishes,
Royal Holloway, University of London

Hey @freyahajajs

This is a really exciting time for you! But we totally understand the stress of trying to decide.

As a lot of people suggest, Offer Holder Days will absolutely be the best for you. It's really important to get a feel for the university you're going to, and ensure it's the right vibe for you.

If you're interested in our current student's experiences then you can chat to them here. This will hopefully allow you to have a better idea of why they chose Plymouth.

All the universities you mentioned will have a similar chat-to-students option, and so I would definitely check that out too 😊

It's also key to note that you'll find your own crowd of friends no matter where you go. Universities have so many fun taster sessions and societies that likeminded people and groups will go to. Here in Plymouth we have over 100 clubs and societies ranging from a variety of sports, to cochet and knit Society, to an F1 society! (you can check some more out here if you're interested!) So there really is something for everyone.

If you have any questions feel free to drop us a message! But remember, this is your choice to make, so be sure to go where feels right for you.

Wishing you all the best in your uni search!
