What are offer holder days like?

I just got my first offer and they've invited me to an offer holder day. What exactly does this involve?

Hello,
Firstly congratulations on your offer :elefant:that's brilliant news! I'm just speaking from the experience I've had at the University of Chester, and I'm not sure which university your offer was from. However, at Chester, we have Applicant Days which are really similar to the general Open Days, but specifically tailored for students who have secured a place to study at Chester. At the applicant days, there is an Information Fair where the departments such as Student Services, Finance, the Students Union, Accommodation, Academic Skills, Careers and Sports and Active Lifestyle are all available to answer all the questions the students have. The academic departments are also available to present their subject sessions. Students can also attend a Welcome Talk and get advice on managing their money at university. There are student led guided tours of the campus and also the accommodation.
The Applicant Days are a great way of finding out more about the university from the staff and also the students and they are opportunities for you to get all your questions answered that you have before starting to study at the university.
I hope this helps you,
Best wishes

Hiya! Congratulations on your offer - that's an amazing achievement

It really depends on the course and the university you've applied for, honestly. My experience of an offer holder day is probably very different from what most people experience these days (I applied during lockdown - so it was all online!). Though, I'd imagine it would have the same type of content.

Offer Holder days are honestly there to give you a taster of what studying at the university might be like. You may have tours of the place, introduction to the department and their facilities. One memorable part of my offer holder day was the taster lectures - they'd usually do a lecture or two on a particular topic to give you a taste of what lectures are like at the uni. I found them really helpful in knowing the kind of opportunities the uni offers, as well as asking staff and students directly about the course

Hi

Congratulations on receiving your first offer, that is a great achievement!

Offer holder days solidify your choice to come and study at that University, this is because you will get shown around the facilities again, and will give you another opportunity to speak to the lecturers and the teaching team.

I hope this helps,

Hi @Krimnal,

Congratulations of your offer!

This can differ between universities, but here is a general idea of what to expect:

Campus tours and accommodation tours - This allows you to become familiar with the campus and can allow you to get an idea of where you could will be spending the next few years. You will also have the opportunity to ask lots of questions, often to a current student too so you can get a real perspective on student life!

Subject stands - Here you can ask students and academics about the course and the what your university experience may be like. Some questions I've received when working subject stands are about placement years, module content, my personal experience, career prospects and more!

Subject talks - These provide a more in-depth discussion about a course. This way you can learn about its structure, assessment types, past student stories and possibly a small taster sessions!

These are just a few things to expect. Offer holder days are an excellent chance to finalise your university decision.

Good luck with your decision, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hi there!

Congratulations on your offer! You should be very proud of yourself🙂 This will depend on what University you go to - you should get an email before letting you know the itinerary beforehand. Typically there would be:

welcome talks

campus tours

subject talks

accommodation talks

Hope this helps!

Hi There!
Congratulations on your offer, that's amazing!
It is certainly worth attending place holder/ applicant days if you are able to travel to them. They allow you to get a hands on experience to see what your course is like.
A typical applicant day is made up of the following:

Subject Tasters- You might get a taster lecture or workshop delivered by a few of the academics that teach on the course. This will allow you to see if their teaching style and content plan is for you.

Facility Tours- You'll usually get a tour of the campus and student services as well as the main facilities that apply to the course you have applied for.

General Student Life Talks- There are usually talks in a big lecture theatre giving tips about things such as finance and budgeting, accommodation, student life, introduction to the university, etc.

Subject Stands- There are usually subject stands throughout the day where you can go and speak to academics about specific courses, and they can answer any burning questions you might have.

Each applicant day will be slightly different depending on which university you attend, but that is what they will typically have on offer.
I hope this helps.
