what can I do with a law with business undergraduate degree

Hi guys! Im thinking of applying to Exeter for their law with business course because I believe that I will really enjoy the content that they cover, I'm just not sure what I can do with degree after uni? Please reply with some suggestions and even better if you have studied/are studying this course with your insights. Thank you!
Well obviously you could go into law if you secure a training contract (or pupillage) and do the various exams/courses required after graduating for that. You could also go into any of the generalist grad schemes a graduate of any degree could go into including e.g. the civil service, the media, financial services inc e.g. accountancy, various business function grad schemes at differently sized corporations (e.g. management track things, in house finance, marketing/merchandising, sales, buying, etc), similar roles in NGOs and charities, etc, etc, etc.

You could also continue in academia potentially, go into teaching, or retrain in another area altogether.

Your degree doesn't really define what career you go into unless it's one where you need a specific qualification for accreditation requirements e.g. medicine, nursing, social work etc. And even these have routes in for people who did other degrees first.

Hey there!

A Law with Business undergraduate degree is a versatile qualification that combines legal expertise with business knowledge, opening doors to a wide range of career opportunities. If you enjoy the structure of legal analysis and the dynamic nature of business, this course is an excellent choice.
With this degree, you could pursue legal careers such as becoming a solicitor or barrister (with further qualifications like the SQE), specializing in areas such as commercial, corporate, or employment law. Alternatively, you could work as a legal advisor or paralegal, offering guidance on contracts, compliance, or intellectual property.
In the business world, this degree equips you for roles like business consultant, HR manager, or corporate governance specialist, where your understanding of legal and business frameworks is highly valued. It’s also a great foundation for entrepreneurial ventures or roles in compliance, financial analysis, and project management, where legal and strategic business skills are essential.

This course develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, which is making you highly adaptable to various industries. To maximize your prospects, I suggest you to consider internships in both fields during your studies and explore further qualifications depending on your career goals.

If you're passionate about law and business, this degree offers flexibility and exciting opportunities in both sectors!

I hope this information helps you in making your decision.
Best of luck!

Hi Amy,

Great to hear that you're thinking of studying with Exeter on the Law with Business course. You can find more information about the graduate prospects for that course on the Your Future section of the website. As a LLB degree you have lots of opportunities to continue on to a legal career, for example by continuing further training to become a solicitor or barrister. The mix of business and law modules that you study will also make you well equipped for a career in finance or management, or you could use the transferable skills gained from your degree in a different sector altogether such as the civil service or teaching. You might want to use our online chat service, Unibuddy, here, where you can message one of our current students, Charlotte, who is in the 3rd year of the LLB Law with Business degree. Talking to current students might help you gain some insight from their career plans as to what you might want to do after your own degree once you graduate. It's also worth mentioning at the University of Exeter we have our dedicated careers service, Careers Zone, that you'll have access to throughout and after your degree. They can provide lots of help with all sorts of things, from finding internships or graduate jobs, proof-reading CVs and cover letters, and helping with presentations or interviews. In particular their Professional Pathways to programme can be really helpful for gaining insight into a particular sector, including a paid internship, if you aren't sure what it might be like to work in after your degree.

I hope that's helpful, but let me know if you have any questions. The main thing is that it's a flexible degree that keeps your options open, whether you want to continue to develop a legal career, work in business or try something else entirely.
