Will I have any chance of getting in

I’ve been on a gap year and i’m thinking of reapplying. I was predicted AAB, but the grades I actually got were A*A*B (maths A*, physics A* and graphic design B). Do you think i would have any chance in getting on a course that has entry requirements A*AA or AAA. I’m thinking of applying to computer science at kcl, i’m guessing i would most likely get rejected from the super competitive universities like imperial, but i’m curious what others thoughts are.

You can apply to one maybe, but why would you put all of your choices to be something you don't have?
It is like trying to get onto a rollercoaster, but you aren't tall enough- maybe they'll let you on if there is an extra space, but is most likely they will just tell you you can't.
So make sure only one be an aspirational with grades higher than you have.
Best of luck!

Hiya!

Hope you enjoyed your gap year—what did you get up to? And congratulations on your grades; they’re a fantastic achievement!

For courses with entry requirements of A*AA or AAA, I’d suggest reaching out to university admissions teams to clarify, as they usually assess applications holistically and on an individual basis. If you did anything academically relevant or related to Computer Science during your gap year, be sure to mention it, as it could strengthen your application.

It’s also worth checking the specific criteria for super-competitive universities like Imperial. With A*s in Maths and Physics, you have a strong academic foundation for Computer Science, so it’s always worth asking for clarification—just in case!

I hope this helps!

Which uni/course are you due to start next year?

Try asking the unis in which you're interested how they would view your application.

Apply. One risky choice is always worth it.
Just be aware of the cost, and reality, of living in London.

I’m aware that i don’t exactly meet the requirements. But i was thinking that surely A*A*B is somewhat equivalent to A*AA or even AAA, especially since the two A*’s are in maths and physics. This may not be the case but I’ve heard people saying things around this.

Thank you for your response. I will definitely get in contact with their admission teams to see what kind of shot I have. During my gap year so far i’ve been doing a lot of travelling, not a whole lot that would benefit my application being honest, apart from the fact that I’m currently teaching myself programming and some web development, I’m also working with a company to design their website (which is more graphic design related).

I’m due to start Engineering Maths at Bristol. However I’m now thinking that it isn’t the course for me.

But yes I will also apply to unis which i’m fairly confident in getting an offer.
