Is this unprofessional?

Hi, I’ve got a university interview this Wednesday for Dental Hygiene. I’m worried about what to wear - how professional do people dress? I’m planning on wearing some black office style trousers, flat black ballerina pumps and a plain white knitted jumper. I always wear false eyelashes (not big obvious ones but small and natural ones) as I absolutely hate wearing mascara. It is inappropriate to wear fake lashes for an interview? And have some light pink nail polish on? I had a job interview a year ago and I had both lashes and painted nails and she made a snarky remark about how those would be unacceptable in the work place - and it was embarrassing. I am feminine, blonde, and wear fairly natural makeup and I feel like my appearance constantly makes people view me as a bimbo. It’s so tiring and straight up prejudice 😐

Hello, with the upmost respect, your outfit description sounds professional and hitting just right tone.

formal yet putting you at ease and demonmstrating / showing your unique character. Thus helping you answer questions and showing what you have to offers.

its the suit and trainer look on guys I find odd.. that was big faux pas in my 20's

wish you very best luck... have questions or teo at end . I always ask about the interviewers backgrounds. You will do brilliantly and have an amazing varied career

Hello,

From what you have described it sounds professional for a job interview. As this is for dental hygiene, any medical-related employer like this may not appreciate painted fingernails because of hygiene but with the false lashes, I cannot see why that would be a problem. Ultimately, if you are unsure you should ask what their policy is and what they expect from staff/students.

I hope this helps, please do feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.
