Not enjoying 2nd year course at all

I haven’t found any interest or motivation in any part of the course I am doing, maybe 1 or 2 things and only stuck out to 2nd year to see if I could find any interest.
I’ve been constantly going back on fourth from thinking about dropping out and I feel like I shouldn’t ignore it anymore, I also don’t have a definite idea of what to do with my life. Any suggestions?
Do you hate the whole degree, or just these particular modules?

Pretty much whole degree, but it seems like all my course mates feel the same which makes no sense to me
I'd have suggested that you switch courses, but ideally you should have done that before starting your second year, as you can get student finance for the length of your course plus one year... but you've already eaten into that.

What is the subject?

Well if I were you, if you have no idea what you want to do with your life and you don't like the path you're on, would be to drop out, transfer the 120 credits from your first year over to the Open University so they're not lost, and switch to an Open Degree choosing modules you find interesting.

As you're funded for the length of your degree plus one "spare" year, the second year that you're currently on (that you'd be dropping out of) will be considered the spare year.

So you'll still be funded for the whole length of a degree as long as you don't lose the credits from the first year.

Hi @jamo21 ,

Sorry to hear that you have been feeling like this at Uni.

My best advice would be to talk to your uni about this. If you have an academic advisor or personal tutor, they are good people to speak to about this as they will have spoken to lots of people who are in a similar situation before and they will know how to help you. They also should know you by now so they will be able to help you with how you are feeling.

If you can't or don't want to do this, I would recommend you talk to the help team at your university as they will also be able to help you out with this. They should know the procedures of dropping out or transferring courses so they will be able to help you with this side of this.

Another person you could talk to is your tutor for the modules that you are struggling with, or if you dislike multiple of them try and speak to all of them about how you are feeling. They may be able to explain things to you so that you understand this better, or you can explain what does not make sense so that they can explain this to your class. If multiple people in your classes do not understand the work, they should be able to amend this so everybody is happy with it.

I think the idea of switching to the Open University sounds like a good idea so have a look into this and see if you think that this will be suitable for you. You could always try and speak to someone at the OU and see if they can help explain anything about this to you!

I hope some of this helps,

Hi there,

I think it would be worth talking through your options with your personal academic tutor, your family, and/or support staff at your university. They can give you the support you'll need and can help to carve out a plan for your next steps.

If you're unhappy, it wouldn't hurt to look at other options. Is there something else, such as another course or another route (e.g., an apprenticeship), that interests you? Taking some time out while you work/travel and figure out what you want to do is also something you could consider.

There are so many options out there. If you are unhappy, definitely look at what else you could be doing that would be beneficial to you, as it is you that has to be content with the choice!

Best of luck,
