Hi Jeff,

A student who is estranged would not have contact with their parents and you no longer speak to them. Do you still speak to your parents or if you do not how long have you been estranged.

No, I'm in a toxic relationship with my family and I wanted to know if I'm qualified to be estranged so I can apply for it when I have left college I'm planning on leaving them and go to a new city to study in a university but I don't think I'm qualified

Sorry for lying 🤥 I'm actually in high school, and when I finish college, i'm planning on getting help from school advisor when it's time to sign up for uni bc i don't know how I can get an acceptance letter without my parents finding out ( I wasn't really expecting anyone to read this) and what to write for address as I don't want to use my parents

When would you be planning on attending university? You should be able to set your account to online correspondence so that we email rather than post letters to you however some correspondence may need to be posted to you depending on what it is.

people ask me to apply for an estrangement student ( when leaving college) so I can use the college address, so sign up for uni vbc that is the only option I have so far

Can't ask friends they said no and I don't want to be in contact with my parents when going to uni

To apply as an estranged student you would need to complete an estrangement form once you have an application for finance and this will need to be completed with a 3rd party who knows about your situation.

Who do the people have to be can I use my friends because I don't want to tell school advisers as I they might call CPS and make things harder on my famliy I just want to quietly leave my family without them knowing and then tell them i have left after I have already have left the

Hi Jeff,

3rd party is someone in profession who knows of the situation i.e. Teacher/Doctor/Lecturer who knows of the estrangement/situation with your parents. We can't use a friend for estrangement.

Based on what you have advised above, if no one knows about the situation by the time you apply for university, then we would need you to supply a signed letter describing your situation in as much detail as you feel comfortable with and why you're unable to provide standard evidence. This will then be processed by the independent team and passed to the estrangement assessors if needed. They then may contact you discuss further.

Because right now I am in high school doing my GCSE then i have to do my A LEVELS and I also need to be 18 to be able to legally leave my parents .
Thank you 😊 I was really very depressed about everything thinking I will be unable to leave my family and now you have helped me to actually work hard so i can get out of my house.
