I'm looking at doing a comp sci degree and would like some recommendations as to which laptop I should get.

If you don't care about price, then performance wise and quality wise, I recommend the latest model MacBook air containing the M3 chip.

I've moved this to a more appropriate thread. What's your budget? Any platform preferences?

Budget is probably somewhere around 2k

Ideally not an apple but if it's the best then it's the best

Linux is the best operating system for a comp sci student. Therefore Macs are out.

Spending £2k on a laptop would be a waste of money. Due to all the great laptops you can buy for £250 or less. Used, fully working premium business laptops from ebay.

You haven't told us your mobility profile. So we don't know what sized laptop would be best for you.
How will you transport / move your laptop around? On foot or public transport vs in the boot of a car.
How physically strong are you, from dainty to medium to rugby prop forward?
