What is the parking like at Edge Hill for those staying on campus as I will need to keep my car to travel to work

Hey! I was a student at edge hill. Graduated last year . In all honesty, parking can be horrendous and you’re technically not allowed to park unless you have special permission to request a permit . ( you need a permit to park on the car park) or unless you have a placement . I enquired about it and wasn’t allowed a permit . And there are wardens who patrol the car park. Couple of my friends parked there but one of them unfortunately was caught and you can be fined . So just be careful !

Even the staff can rarely find a parking space, as there simply aren't enough - students have no chance. They often park along Ruff Lane, but this annoys the local residents and creates a danger as the angle of them makes it difficult to see what's ahead (Ruff Lane bends a lot). If you do use that road, please do abide by the 20mph speed limit so you can stop instantly if you see a car suddenly coming the other way - I've already seen one mangled car. And even if you meet the criteria for a permit to park at Edge Hill University, it can be months before you get it.

Thank you so much! I will be relying heavily on my car anyways bc of work and I will be travelling home occasionally to visit friends and family so this really helps I seen on google maps that there is a walkway from ruff lane into the campus so I’ll probably park just near there and buy a wheel lock just to make sure my car isn’t damaged or stolen.

A lot of the streets surrounding Ruff Lane have time limits, e.g. 1 hour parking (a few are 2 hours), no return within 2 hours. I'm not sure which walkway you're referring to but if it's the one near Vicarage Lane, the parking there is only 2 hours and I have seen traffic wardens. If it's the one near the rear gates, near "Ruff House" on Google maps, there are double yellow lines on parts of Ruff Lane and I believe close by that is one such part. A wheel lock is a good idea but it won't prevent angry residents - however, the damage that I saw was a mangled car, not vandalism (the car looked like it had been in a crash but most likely was hit by a large vehicle because of the layout of Ruff Lane and awful drivers).

As mentioned, it would probably be difficult for you to find a space, but if you can park on Ruff Lane (legally, not on the double yellows) then that's best (assuming you can't find a space on campus or don't want to risk wandering around looking only for a space on Ruff Lane to be taken by the time you go and have a look) as there are not time restrictions (do check and do take photos because as most of us know, most traffic wardens are knobs). Just be careful not to park across someone's drive even if there is no marking.

Hey, did you end up finding anywhere good to park? I'm in the same situation for next year.
