Hi there,

Main things to keep in mind:
1) References. Every claim you make should have some supporting references in correct format. Confirm what's your expected referencing format with your university.
2) Word Count. Please stick to the word count. It is very important.
3) Meet all expectations of the marking matrix. Usually you are provided with the marking matrix that tells you what you will be getting marks for. Try to meet all expectations.

I'm happy to answer any questions,
Ilya

Hi!

Getting from 60% to 70% can feel challenging, but with the right approach, you’ll get there. First, make sure you fully understand the marking criteria, look at what’s required for a first-class grade and aim to meet those expectations. Focus on structuring your work clearly, with a strong introduction, well-organised arguments, and a solid conclusion. A key step to achieving higher marks is critical evaluation, so don’t just describe ideas instead, analyse them. Present both sides of an argument, compare different perspectives, and explain why one view might be stronger than another, backing this up with evidence.
Engage with a wide range of sources, and don’t be afraid to challenge or question what you’ve read. Proper referencing and incorporating varied academic material can also boost your grade. Take feedback from your first semester seriously and work on those areas. Finally, plan your assignments carefully and proofread thoroughly to ensure clarity and polish.

Good luck with your second semester, you’re on the right track!

Hi! 🙂
Firstly well done on achieving 60, that's still a very good grade!
Some tips to get higher grades:

Answer what the question actually is! It sounds simple but a lot of the time people can focus on the wrong details or get side-tracked (myself included!)

Go above and beyond. Research the area of study through textbooks, articles, journals etc... (depending on your subject) and try to include these new ideas in your coursework. Lecturers can tell when a student has read around the subject as opposed to just reading lecture materials. Do this throughout your degree, not just when you have coursework.

Practice writing things concisely. Most coursework will have word limits, but if you can write concisely you have more words to include complex ideas (only relevant ideas though!)

Use feedback from formative coursework. You should get an opportunity to practice coursework-style questions before the summative. Use feedback from these and incorporate it into your coursework.

If you're doing a STEM subject, don't forget units! They are easy marks to get, but surprisingly a lot of people miss them.

Start early! I find when I start an assignment early, I have more time to think about it in more depth. I usually do the bulk of coursework early and then gradually add details before the deadline.

I hope this helps and good luck with next semester's coursework!

Hi there,

Here are some of my tips to help you get the best grade that you can in your assignment:

1.

Look through any previous assignments that you have submitted and make a note of any feedback that you have received. This will help you to ensure that you use this feedback in your upcoming assignments and you can improve on any of these areas.

1.

Ask your tutors anything that you do not understand. Try and ask them any questions you have as you go along as they should be able to help answer you and this will help you to know what you are doing in your work. They should be happy to help you so make sure you are asking them!

1.

Make the most of any formative feedback opportunities as this is a good chance to show your teachers what you have done so far and how you can improve upon this. These are great and I always make sure I go to any drop in sessions or similar things as I find they help my work.

1.

Check that you are referencing everything correctly as this will mark your work down if it is not correct. Ensure that you are using the right style that your university uses, they are in alphabetical order if needs be and that your citations are correct.

1.

Along the same lines, make sure that you are using good, academic references as this will help your work too. If you are unsure on this have a look and see if your university has any resources to help you with this.

1.

Make sure you format your work well - if it a report make sure you have the right headings and a contents page as this will make your work neat and look good.

I hope some of this helps!

Hi there ,

As a student I usually follow the below steps in order to score about 70-80% in my assignments.
To achieve 70% or higher in your assignments, start by carefully reviewing the assignment brief and grading points to understand what’s required for top marks. Focus on areas like critical analysis, logical arguments, and proper referencing. Plan your assignments well in advance, ensuring a clear structure with a strong introduction, well-organized main body, and a concise conclusion. Use high-quality academic sources like journal articles and books to support your work, and engage with them critically instead of just quoting. Finally, polish your writing by proofreading for clarity, grammar, and formatting. With these strategies, you’ll be well on your way to achieving higher grades in your second semester. Wishing you Good luck for your future assignments.

Thanks & regards,

Hello,

These are some tips that I’ve personally found useful for tackling assignments::

Plan and organize: Understand the prompt, create a schedule, gather resources, and outline your work.

Research and write: Take effective notes, cite your sources, write clearly and concisely, and proofread carefully.

Rubric: Follow the rubric for grading if it’s provided to you.

Your Mindset: Start early, seek help when needed, take breaks, and stay positive.

These will hopefully help you find a better rhythm for assignments. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your peers or professors, as they can also help you.

Hi

I would look at your assignment brief to ensure that you are hitting all learning outcomes. In addition to this, I think that you could speak to your learning support team who might be able to help you by reading some of your assignments and might be able to indicate to you where you are going wrong and what might be holding you back from getting the 70%.

I hope this helps,

Hi!

My biggest piece of advice is to use the information you are given - it sounds super obvious but if you are given an assignment brief or essay structure or anything along those lines, follow it! It is hard to go far wrong if you are checking off everything in the assignment brief as you go. If you have any questions I definitely recommend booking a tutorial with you lecturer, they can give some great and tailored advice.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂
